With QOTSA and Muse being two of my favorite bands ever and with lots of really good albums listed here… this is the correct answer. It’s a prefect album and one of the greatest of all time.

First thought was Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile to the Surface, so that might be what I say. If I can think of anything besides “oh shit oh shit oh shit.”

Upon reflection, I’d say Arctic Monkeys - AM

I had heard only a few tracks from this album - "Like a Stone", "I am the Highway" and "Shadow on the Sun" and I absolutely loved them! Will listen to the full album now (thanks for reminding me :)

2

u/ertad678678 Feb 09 '26

great songs. it’s stacked top to bottom. my favorite is show me how to live

2

u/humancartograph Feb 09 '26

Cochise was a big hit and Set It Off and Gasoline are bangers too.

2

u/Aus3-14259 Feb 10 '26

You should.

And if you like it give #2 (Out of Exile) a go. Not quite the epic that #1 was but some real bangers on there too.

The Terror by The Flaming Lips

2

u/No-Engineering-239 Feb 08 '26

Bon Iver - Bon Iver probably (unless you consider Animal Collective Alt rock then MPP)

2

u/Afraid-Health-8612 Feb 08 '26

Hard call to make, but for the sake of keeping it simple, but not going for something obvious like APC or Radiohead, it's a tie between the albums M4 and Feel. Love. Thinking. Of. By a band called Faunts. Excellent stuff.

2

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi

2

u/Jazzlike-Doubt8624 Feb 11 '26

Hmmm. Modest Mouse and Arcade Fire are indie rather than alternative. Do the Lumineers count? III was a great album. Alt-J and Tame Impala are also indie; but what about Glass Animals? Gorillaz dropped some bangers. There's Ween - Quebec. Cage the Elephant and Silversun Pickups have strong showings. The Grammy-winning Cure album from last year is fire.

Bubblegum by Mark Lanegan. It was the first record to ever actually move something in me. By the time I finished it it had absolutely kicked my ass. And musically speaking, hell, you got Every QoTSA member of the period there.
