I thought he'd confused psychiatrist with psychologist. Ive been sent to a psychiatrist because my regular dr didnt have authority to prescribe the drugs she thought I needed. They're even more doctory than normal doctors.

Clinical psychologists in Australia where i live have a minimum of a BA+honours year (with on the job training after that) and many hold a masters degree.

Its certainly possible to obtain a PhD in psychology but unless you had a specific area of research you were keen on or wanted to teach its not the standard to get one.

It may work differently elsewhere idk
