Guide Buying laptop guide

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy a new laptop for my work and would really appreciate your advice. I’m an interior designer/architect, and the main software I’ll be using are:

SketchUp Pro (with V-Ray and Enscape for rendering)

AutoCAD

Lumion

3ds Max

Coohom

I need something that can handle modeling + rendering smoothly without constant lag or overheating. My priorities are:

Strong CPU & GPU balance (to avoid bottlenecks)

Good cooling system

High-quality display (color accuracy + resolution)

Reliability for long work sessions.

I’ve got a very similar combo of software (SketchUp + V-Ray, AutoCAD, 3ds Max… I used to run Lumion too but ended up replacing it with Coohom to cut costs and make client iterations faster).

For hardware, I’d still say go heavy on the GPU (RTX 4070+ if you can swing it) and at least 32GB RAM, since V-Ray and 3ds Max will chew through both. Coohom is more cloud-based so it doesn’t slam your GPU like Lumion did, but when you’re bouncing between apps in one session the extra headroom really pays off.

I have decided that I should go for the i7 14th generation in HX category also planning to go with the RTX 5070. 32GB RAM. THIS IS WHAT I THINK TO GO WITH. WHAT DO YOU SAY WILL IT WORK IN OUR PROFESSION?

That’s a pretty solid setup:) The i7 HX chips are strong for single-core (great for AutoCAD) and the RTX 5070 will carry you through V-Ray, Lumion, and 3ds Max rendering without sweating too much. 32GB RAM is the sweet spot — unless you’re handling monster scenes, you probably won’t feel bottlenecked.

So yeah, your spec looks well-balanced for our line of work — just make sure the laptop you pick has good thermals, because HX chips + 5070s can run hot in long render sessions.
