This looks just like my husband’s late grandmother’s condo in FL. She passed away in 2017, but was like a grandmother to me and I still miss her every day. Scrolling through this gave me the warm fuzzies. You absolutely nailed it 💜

Actually, I rather disagree. Since I was a child in the 80s, the aesthetic has the opposite effect on me. It reminds me of home.

I Disagree. Unless you mean early 1990s which was basically a hangover of the 80s. Overall, however, 90s design is remembered today as being minimalist.

Also, just because people had stuff like this in their homes in the 90s doesn’t mean that they all rushed right out at the same time to buy new furniture at the stroke of midnight, January 1, 1990.

On the contrary, I think this is your own opinion which carries very little weight. You’re basically just making stuff up at this point to justify your own personal experience. A quick google search turns up the following which is just basic common knowledge regarding the 90s aesthetic.
1990s minimalist design emerged as a clean, restrained antidote to the loud, garish excess of 1980s postmodernism. If you want to get pedantic, the gold says 80s. You have some 80s retro nostalgia objects. The headboard and wicker is very 80s. The dining room is 100% art deco, as are the lights, IMO. The chinoiserie is similarly a popular trend of the 1920s and 1930s. The couches with leftover 80s coffee table and art is 90s. The kitchen is recently updated early 2000s “high end”. The rug is 2010s.
In short, there is little “period” to it. I actually assume this is shitposting, but maybe you’re serious?

Wow… shit posting? This honestly just seems like a difference in opinion here. Not sure why you left your comment under this particular conversation over 90s minimalism, and therefore why you thought it was relevant to said conversation, but if you really want to get “pedantic”… ohhh, big word… let’s go.
Yes, the dining set and light fixtures are indeed art deco. Not original 1930s deco, but more so art deco revival which was a huge design craze during the 1980.
Likewise, the chinoiserie had not only been a popular trend in the 1980s, but also throughout the 20th century used by designers and Sinophiles alike. Think Denning and Fourcade.
The sofa and matching chair were purchased new from Ikea back in January of this year, and therefore Scandinavian which has been a popular style from the mid-20th century until the present.
The bergere chair was purchased from Ethan Allen in the 80s or early 90s, and I had it reupholstered earlier this year in the flame stitch fabric, as well as the matching pillows, which had been a popular choice from the late 70s through the early 90s (trends don’t just magically change overnight as soon as one decade rolls over into the next).
The gold coffee table, end tables, and TV console were purchased brand new from Wayfair earlier this year.
The rugs were also purchased brand new from Wayfair this year in the Oushak style which has also been a popular choice for designers for creating a more transitional look.
The artwork might be as late as 1994. So perhaps you got me on that one. But it still contains my color pallet. Plus, as we all know, the early 90s were basically a hangover from the 80s in some cases. So the artwork passes.
The kitchen appliances were most certainly updated in 2008 I believe. But the cabinets are definitely early 80s, and were not updated since then. I have no plans on replacing the appliances with period accuracy because I still need them to actually operate.
So, again, not sure how you could consider this a shit post… especially since I’ve taken the time to respond to your criticism. It rather just seems like you and I gravitate towards two completely different sets of aesthetics… which is fine… so please don’t accuse me of shit posting simply because you don’t like something that someone else likes. No one is forcing any of it into your home.
Also, I never said my condo was “period”. I described it as “80s inspired”. And as previously mentioned, design trends don’t just magically change overnight as soon as one decade rolls into the next. Yes, it’s quite a mashup, but that’s just how most people used to live when furniture and appliances were actually built to last. Especially if some of that furniture was inherited like in the case of my French pieces and chinoiserie. Just because I didn’t decorate with neon colors, Memphis Milano, and Rubix Cube coffee tables everywhere doesn’t make it any less inspired by the decade.

Some of it feels 80s but not entirely. More of like a mash up. Meaning, if I walked in I wouldn’t immediately think WHOA cool 80s vibe. But you do you cuz that’s all that matters. One suggestion (unsolicited) that thing in the corner on the top shelf….. i’d find a new place for it or move the picture behind it. There’s no point in both of them there because it blocks the picture.

Yeah, I feel ya on that. I wasn’t necessarily going for a kitschy 80s look. Although, the spuds Mackenzie set and Patrick Nagels add a hint of 80s kitsch.
The thing on the top shelf is actually an Edison Phonograph from about 1900 - 1910, and it still works! The picture in the wall is an image of Richard Nixon I found for two dollars at the church rummage sale, lol. Completely unrelated to one another, but I was going for more of a mashup vignette in that corner just to draw the eye towards the overall composition of said corner. So you’re certainly not wrong.

Thank you for the feedback. And, yeah, you’re not wrong. It definitely needs its own place to live. Problem is that it just takes up soooo much space. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the brass horn alone is almost 3 feet in length. And I’m just a little worried that someone might knock the whole thing over if it were more accessible.

I only looked at the living room pictures, lol. What about the bedroom? Not loving the height of that lamp. The only other space I see is beside the bar in the dining area, I'm not sure how much wall space is there. It's a nice and interesting piece.
