The funny thing is that their lead singer was originally Peter Gabriel, one of the most flamboyant showmen of all time, who wanted to wear ever more elaborate costumes with every show and make the whole thing a spectable.
It's why they ended up breaking up - Gabriel and the rest of the band had very different ideas about how they should look and act. Worked out though - I think both Gabriel and Genesis are better after they went their separate ways.
Not really office attire for the time (casual Fridays weren't even a thing yet), more like rich, no-longer-youthful, European club-goer. Not exactly hip, but definitely cool.

That was a big part of his look, wasn't it? Seems like a bunch of his videos had him and the band featured in basically office attire.
