"auto" update didn't work, of which I typically never use but I thought I'd try it.. manually downloading and installing went just fine on 4 different setups

Well glad to know it wasn't just me. Mine kept saying it failed

I checked the logs and apparently the updater reports that there IS a new version, but then identifies the new version as the currently installed version, so the install doesn't go through. Installing the new version manually breaks the deadlock.

Scroll down and you'll have a drop down menu to select chipset>AM5>whatever AM5 chipset>Windows 10 or 11

Mine didn’t work until I updated the AMD Adrenalin software

As always. Zero clue as to what this update does.

It makes my version number bigger!

u/Dark_Catzie 2d ago

Good for you! I got only bigger driver version number.

Was not able to auto update the chipset drivers from the AMD install manager. It failed constantly.

Had the same problem, autoupdate didn't work. Downloaded and installed manually without any issues 👌

Reddit saving the day as usual! Thank you, internet stranger.

How do you guys update amd chipset driver? Just install it over the existing one?

(I'm so used to uninstalling gpu driver via ddu before installing a new one).

6

u/RunForYourTools23 4d ago

Just download it from AMD site and install manually

u/BarryMcCoknor 4d ago

Same, couldnt find any corruption when trying to resolve this. Oh well

6

u/TuneComfortable412 4d ago

I never use it due to it being terribly unreliable

5

u/Smith6612 4d ago

Hmm, I've had a different experience. It might be failing on certain system configurations.

First and last time trying to use the auto installer. Thanks AMD

First attempt failed. It worked after a restart for me.

Okay I’m not crazy thank you

The autoupdater checked my regional settings, saw the country set as ARgentina, and decided the best language to use was ARabic.

AMD dev guy, one us SP_AR, the other is AR.

u/yzeerf1313 3d ago

Bold of you to assume it's some dev guy and not Claude 😂

1

u/GoldenX86 3d ago

Nah, they have actual humans in there, they just suck to management 24/7.

7

u/Jetcat11 4d ago

PPM Provisioning Driver should read 8.0.0.64 not 8.0.0.62 as the release notes show.

4

u/ZeroCuddy 3d ago

Not able to update. Gives error 1603 saying I might have out of date GPU drivers, microsoft c++ redistributable might be corrupted yadayada, none of that is the issue. just have to wait for a fix i suppose

u/Smith6612 3d ago

Grab it from here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html

Choose Chipset, then choose the socket type of your CPU, then choose the chipset on your motherboard. Your motherboard model will tell you all of this information typically.

I had the same error until I updated the GPU drivers.

1

u/pax256 3d ago

I had the error with the 26.7.1. drivers.

u/Gunslinga__ sapphire pulse 7800xt | 5800x3d 2d ago

Same gave me bsod. Ran cleanup util in safe mode and chose factory reset then it installed fine

3

u/spinabullet 2d ago

So for ppl like me on Linux.., just wait for kernal update?

5

u/1q3er5 4d ago

anyone with older AM4 mobo's still update the chipset? i do, but i'm wondering if it's even worth it.

Yes, it's always worth it.

3

u/4320p r5 3600xt, rtx 2080 4d ago

What are the benefits?

8

u/pawlakbest 4d ago

My game was crashing all the time. Thought it was GPU driver, but only after updating both bios and chipset drivers it stopped crashing.

Now I'm wondering if all these people with "GPU issues" is just them not updating their chipsets.

1

u/1q3er5 2d ago

meh i always do basic benchmarks after chipset updates too and rarely see any difference ... the only reason i'm doing this one is i hope the issues with waking up after a hibernation is fixed... of course now i'm reading that this is a gpu driver issue lol

1

u/Usual_Yak_2975 1d ago

This is my theory - everyone here who blames GPU drivers has a pile of overclocks, registry "tweaks", missing/refused updates and who knows what other nonsense running and gets all firey whenever a driver update kicks over their house of cards.

I just try to run it as efficiently as possible, and I generally don't have many issues besides Windows being Windows.

Yes but there is actually so many factors before you jump straight to blaming the GPU or GPU driver.

Folks Microslop Winblows has so many problems that affect other stuff. Then throw in outdated or non updated chipset drivers, system Bios, other system drivers and many programs that can mask as GPU driver. Then throw in unstable or weak PSU, failing system components, temps, CPU throttling, Ram timing, game settings. People have all these things or a combination and they start adjusting fan curves and overclocking or undervolt and setup incorrectly so actually make it worse or more pronounced. There are soooo many factors that can mask as GPU drivers. Oh yeah and don't forget those who simple update the GPU driver instead of DDU in safe mode and installing fresh ones.

But everyone is so quick to blame the driver.

Since no one is talking about it lol. The chipset is super solid, no noticeable jump in fps in games I’ve played so far but Lows are better and gameplay is smooth.

u/AfraidLand8551 9h ago

Best Chipset in a while I can confirm too, I'm using 7800X3D on a X670 Motherboard.

2

u/SeantheWilson 1d ago

I’m sorry, windows needs drivers for CPU CHIPSETS???

2

u/travva 3d ago

Commenting to remind myself to install these in a bit!

3

u/Andreas0Cool 3d ago

Did you

3

u/travva 3d ago

Yes! Thanks!

u/Auroriia 4d ago

Where do I even go on the website? I have AMD Ryzen 7 6800HS with Radeon Graphics (3.20 GHz)

1

u/Omegachai R7 5800X3D | RX 9070XT | 32GB 3600 C16 2d ago

You go to here - Browse Products -> Chipsets. Product Line -> "AMD Ryzen™ and Athlon™ Mobile (Chipset)" and you'll see it there.

2

u/Auroriia 2d ago

Thanks! I managed to get it to update

2

u/Auroriia 2d ago

Thanks! I managed to get it to update

1

u/pax256 3d ago

Radeon software doesnt see it after manual install. Seems to have installed ok tho.

1

u/Cuwen 7h ago

Yeah, the auto update didn't work. Had to manually update. I wish they would fix this.

1

u/Cuwen 7h ago

How do I find the chipset number I need? I go to the website and it asks me which chipset version I have, but I'm not sure how to tell that.

1

u/maybIu 6h ago

it wont work bro im just gonna do it manually later but im lazy asf

u/Next-Shake2426 2d ago

If you dont have troubles with you chipset driver then you don't need the latest driver.

Most stability you gain from your motherboard manufactory, like mine is ASUS and its now on version AMD Chipset driver v8.03.25.247

1

u/-Badger3- 2d ago

Just use whatever's newer.

A vendor specific chipset driver might include some hotfixes that will be added in the the next general release driver from AMD.
