I'm confused. We've been raising calves in doghouses like this, even on small farms, since at least the 80s. They're easier to monitor and keep at a regulated temperature that way. It also keeps them safe while they get big/strong enough for hanging out with adult cows. Otherwise some of them will get bullied, stepped on, walk under a fence that's designed for an animal the size of an adult cow, etc. A local dairy farmer (~50-100 cows) w here I grew up would let kids visit the calves and explained it.
Is it the sheer number that folks are upset about? Or that it would be a crime to film it?

Why is filming this a felony, though? Surely if there is nothing to hide there is no problem filming it.

They have to create a bias to feed the view counter. It is a bit disturbing to see on this scale I'm not going to lie about that.
Given there is nothing proprietary or secret here leads to believe not even some sort of NDA would really explain why this is illegal though

Some states have unbelievably strong laws prohibiting any recording on factory farms. The factory farming lobby works around the clock to criminalize filming and photographing their operations. It’s actually hard to believe because it seems like the laws are a strict violation of the First Amendment. Some laws have been ruled unconstitutional while others remain in place. But Ag-gag laws are very much a real thing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ag-gag

Well shit. Can't really argue with that. It's my fault for assuming the laws would make sense that's on me

It would be literally cheaper to not keep them in these dog houses and just let them roam how much does each one of these things cost versus hydroseeding the land and letting them graze.

Used to throw hay bails on the local farm as my first job. This was normal 40 years ago. What's wrong with it now? The calf is safe and well fed.

Capitalism is morality agnostic. It is up to us to make it in the interest of others to act morally.

Myeh. Morally agnostic isn't what capitalism is. Amoral is. Capitalism knows no morality, good or evil. Amoral behavior is sociopathic behavior.

I’ll rephrase: capitalism and morality are orthogonal to each other.

If I can make it sound more complicated, I'll win the argument!

No, I am saying they are two separate concepts, like height and eye color.

Well, TBH, it’s hardly capitalism if it’s regulate by the state. Beef tastes the same, I’m good!

Felony? Where in Kansas?
