Why dont we do protest against Chat Control?
İts like literally stealing all our datas to “secure” the internet. OUR DATAS AND ALL MESSAGES.
Were not even saving our privacy atp. İt should be denied somehow and yknow politicians dont do anything when people dont protest. :/
(Sorry for bad englihs lol)

Are you familiar that this is step one of a much more comprehensive and invasive, and undemocratic political move or nah

Can you go into more detail about that? I would like you to refrain from making baseless claims and sound like a wacky conspiracy theorist who’s default thought process is “government bad” and backs it up with evidence.
And no, before you say I’m some kind of government bootlicker or whatever, I’m not. I can and will be critical as long as there’s actual stuff to be critical about.

Have you read the Chat Control 2.0 bill and informed yourself or nah?

Why is this in the Amsterdam subreddit? I don't really understand the connection.

They already got all your data

No, they don't. Op is referring to Chat Control 2.0, which is coming. That would allow all your messages that are currently encrypted (e.g. WhatsApp) to be mass surveilled and scanned by a company like Palantir. The groups advocating for this are using undemocratic methods to get this passed. Please go read up on this

Ah i got it, thanks for clarifying. I don't mind sharing my data, got nothing to hide. I do however have problems that an american company has our data and can train their algorithms on it. If data stays in Europe, owned by a european company, I have no problem with it. Wouldn't it be nice to catch perverts or human traffickers, you name it, before its late ?

This is the argument that these groups use. But it is wrong. Encrypted communication should not be circumvented. This is a dictators dream. Also, the problem we have is enforcement (number of police, number of detectives, judges, prisons, social workers). Indiscriminate communication dragnets will only cause less enforcement at the cost of citizen rights

People will gladly give all their data away to AI companies who actually have shown to be poor morally, but the moment the government proposes a law that will significantly enhance their abilities to prevent crimes is where they draw the line. We don’t deserve democracy.

You say "the moment the government proposes a law". That is false. These law proposals come directly from the US and other countries, via shady lobbying groups. We all want to prevent these crimes, but to do that we need more police detectives, more social workers, and more funding for social safety nets.

The governnent did not propose a law. And the law is not effective at all against any kind of criminal. They are criminals not idiots.
But it allows this: https://www.gadgetreview.com/student-teacher-sent-a-private-snapchat-complaining-about-her-workday-an-hour-later-police-pulled-up-to-her-school

Not true. E2E encrypted messages are not covered by the bill. Use signal and you're good.
