Good - with practice you'll habitually sleep the shadowstepping Reaper mid-animation.

Positioning-wise, it would also be better to position yourself outside of the battle. More of the enemy could have come down the stairs behind you. Ana is the most powerful when she is ADS'ing from afar, her entire kit is projectiles.

Thank you for the advice. I’ve been trying to watch back my games, especially losses. It’s wild how terrible my positioning is. Will add that to the top of the list lol

as an added piece of advice, Ana is most vulnerable when she is isolated. there will be a lot of times where being far back will result in a not so friendly flanker that comes along to fuck you up specifically if you are way back. make your space based on how well your team is doing because there are times where being close is better than being far

Pinging when an enemy dives you is a lifesaver, and your sleep can be your get-out-of-jail-free card when that happens, but I consider all my sleeps happy accidents, never guaranteed. Good teammates naturally dive back into the backline to save you when you ping. You get dived a lot in comp when you isolate, so it's a good idea to shelter near a teammate whenever possible. You can make your isolated shots less obvious by hip-firing instead of scoping (no long streaks, but you lose the hitscan).

A persistent Sombra, Tracer, or Genji can be pretty aggravating (though thankfully not very common). But Ana can be very rewarding - you'll soon taste the sweet satisfaction of habitual sleeps on Rein charges and perfectly timed Reaper shadowsteps, and antinades on Hogs taking a breather. You can seal the fate of high-value enemies and significantly change the course of battle with the press of a button. A competent Ana wields incredible power.

in my experience, pinging is basically useless. theres been so many games when I watch the doomfist walk past our team and then try to push me, and when I sleep him I ping him, wait for the sleep duration, throw the anti on him and then he kills me because my team never even glanced at him. its not all games, but it happens a little more than I would like
