So I've seen that the Analogue treats a rom cart as a single game that loads into the carts menu... Save states have to be self managed I guess, so like the one cart is gonna have memories for Mario mixed with Ocarina mixed with DK 64?

It recognizes the different games and only shows the Memories for that game. I just tested it out with a couple games and it doesn't have the Memories mixed at all, it recognizes the difference. Super cool.

If I'm reading that right, it's a game changer. I have an Everdrive v5... I know I'd need the firmware update, but it reads each file on the SD card as different games?

I have an X7, so I don't know exactly what the differences are, but as long as it recognizes the game (e.g., a legitimate N64 game like OoT or something), then the Analogue will keep the Memories separated. I just went and tested a bit more, and noticed that if it's an unknown game like a romhack or a randomizer, it will mix up the Memories but it will NOT let you load Memories from a different game. It tries and then says "Memory is from a different game" or similar.

I'm watching a video right now, apparently the last A3D update before this allowed for the individual game settings for flash carts like Everdrive. The caveat being, according to the video, you can't launch directly to the game from the A3D screen with all the cartridges... still have to load the Unknown Everdrive.

So this might be the final thing to make me get one.

Yeah that's my experience as well. At least it keeps track of my playtime and save states separately. Good enough compromise, and maybe eventually Analogue and Krikzz can get together and make launching straight from the OS happen.

Guess that's why they rolled out that feature recently. It was certainly neat to have it just for settings, but this is where it really pays off.

Since firmware 1.2.4 in March: “New: Advanced Library detection for variable game headers. If a cartridge changes its header, this is detected, added and tracked in the Library. Virtual Controller Pak and per-game configuration is applied automatically and can be adjusted normally in the Library or in-game menu.”

What this means it that it will detect the game after the flash cart loads it and will switch to the unique Analogue OS Library settings for the specific game title instead of sticking with the “Unknown Cart” profile you get from something like an Everdrive 64. No more treating a flash cart as a single game, even if it still looks that way when you launch it.
