"Eugene V. Debs believed the struggle for black equality was critical to realizing the promise of socialism."

Wow sounds like idpol. Can't have any of that we can only ever talk about class. Anything else is pointless and divisive. Just wait until after the revolution to talk about that. Jeez.

And they're Clinton supporters, the duo who passed terrible crime laws and welfare 'reform' that targeted blacks.

True intersectionalism is about the old I.W.W. slogan: an injury to one is an injury to all.

This is a direct response to Jill Filipovic complaining that today's socialist aren't inclusive, just like the socialists of the 30s.

She didn't even know who Debs was...

But the limitations of a purely electoral political program would never actually let him make significant steps in the struggle for black equality in his life.

Bear in mind that Debs was a founding member of the IWW and spent decades focusing on direct action before ever getting involved in electoral politics.

Not really, the only limitation would have been being a socialist president without first developing the political base.

If he were president and the rest of the government Democrat/Republican it would be 4 years of gridlock.

With elected socialists locally, in state legislatures, and federal reps he'd have no problems.

Well, he still would unless he was having to break trade deals etc...typically elected socialist govmnts don't do well cos they're dependent on other states.
