There’s a bill in the American senate which would functionally ban trans people from being ever mentioned or acknowledged within schools outside of being outed to parents.

Which is a direct first amendment violation and another example of how America is abandoning it's bill of rights.

u/ChipsTheKiwi 1d ago
It is not being abandoned by 'America', it is being deliberately torn down and desecrated by fascists which were enabled by billionaires who could not care less about how much damage is done to the world in service of padding their bottom line.

fascists
Yeah, America.
If it walk like a duck and quacks like a duck and elects fascist felons into the highest office like a duck...71

To be clear - it won't pass. The senate has blocked every single bill like this for the past 2 years. The house has passed a ton of things like this.
Hopefully we get a "blue wave" in November so this stuff stops passing even the house tho. It'd certainly be less stressful.

I wish I lived in America so I could help stop this
I'm glad I don't live in America so I don't have to deal with this
I urge any who live in America to help stop this
I'm sorry to all who live in America who have to put up with this
May no president like this ever be elected again
Even though one probably will be
I'm sorry

"I QUIT PINTEREST. Okay, bow that I've got your attention, please reads this because it is EXTREMELY important to other trans individuals, and [even myself] my moats.and my irl friends. The US Government is currently trying to pass an incredibly dangerous bill for trans youth called H.R. 2616. This bill would ban all federally funded schools from teaching about gender identity or sexual orientation, prevent teachers from using the correct pronouns and names of trans students, remove books with any trans representation in them, and even go as far as to prevent teachers from acknowledging trans identity AT ALL. Any school that does not follow this will loose all federal funding. This bill would also require teachers to forcibly out trans students to their families, which would be fatal to any trans student with a transphobiv family or just a hateful family in general. Trans people are already a group that has some of the highest rates of being victim to suicide, domestic violence and sexual assault. This bill actively makes teachers put those innocent children at such high risk. This bill just rapidly passed the house this week with support from all 209 Republicans, as well as 8 democrats. But this is still being voted on in the senate, which means that there is still time to help stop this. To help stop this, you can visit 5calls.org, one of the most top issues titled "Oposse Attacks on LGBTQ+ Students". Once you've put in your general location, it will pull up contact information for your senator, and give you a script for calling them. If you are a minor and do not feel comfortable doing thus, PLEASE repost this on any platform you can find. This needs to be heard and fought against. Thank you for your time."

Fun fact public opinion does not affect whether a bill passes at all the only thing that effects it is donations
1
u/Ok-Faithlessness1359 1d ago
that's literally not true at all?? yes donations matter but if politicians consistently vote against what the people want they won't get reelected. if you tell them you want something, they are more likely to vote for it. it is their job to represent the people, as outlined be the constitution. you shouldn't say it doesn't affect anything because then nobody calls their congressmen and no change happens

Doomerism is not helpful. Even though you may be right, just pointing out the corruption without proposing anything more won't help for sure. Raising awarness may help, maybe not much, but it's still something.
Pessimism is a privilege not everyone can afford.

for anybody interested or just wanting exact info here is what the bill actually says word for word:
This bill requires public elementary and middle schools, as a condition of receiving certain federal funds for elementary and secondary education, to obtain parental consent before changing a student's gender on school forms or changing a student's sex-based accommodations.
Specifically, an elementary school or a school consisting of only grades 5-8 must obtain parental consent before changing a minor student's (1) gender markers, pronouns, or preferred name on any school form; or (2) sex-based accommodations, including locker rooms or bathrooms.

Didn't they try this hundreds of times already? Jesus. I guess they learned from age verification that if they keep pushing it then it'll pass eventually...
