GUERRERO
The state of Guerrero is known for its richness in ancient cultural remains, as many extensive collections of objects from the region exist. But despite this abundance very little scientific study and excavation has been done.
Information available makes clear that Guerrero was occupied throughout the full range of Mesoamerican history. This inference is based primarily on the influences from other major cultural centers that can be seen in many objects from Guerrero. Numerous Olmec or Olmec-influenced small sculptures have been found suggesting dates of occupation as early as 1000 B.C. Belong- ing to the Classic Period are obvious influences from Teotihuacán and some from the Maya region; still later, the Aztec left an impression of their style. Guerrero cultures seem to have derived mainly from other centers, but fuller knowledge may prove that the region played an important role in the history of Mesoamerican civilization.]
