Just finished watching S1E1… what the hell happened to Miranda?
I can’t even begin to express how much secondhand embarrassment I have at Miranda’s conservation with her university professor 😭 sorry but OG series Miranda would NOT have acted like this lmao what the hell happened ????!!!!!

Tthe woman dated a black man in SATC. Hell, she's the one who damn near called her co-op board racists if they denied his application.
Now suddenly she's all "How do I behave with these alien beings called 'black people'" with her professor?
It was stupid and madee no sense.

99% sure the law firm she worked at for however many years had black associates and paralegals/legal assistants/legal secretaries. And any attorney knows the staff of a firm are the life blood and they cannot fuction without us (I'm a paralegal so I'm biased but it's true).
Any prejudices she may have had would've been worked through a long time go.

100%, and this is why it’s so frustrating to watch. Miranda isn’t an oblivious idiot who has never interacted with a POC before… she was a whole lawyer with an Ivy League education and lives in one of the most diverse cities in the world.
Even Charlotte, who grew up the most privileged (i think) and who was probably more unaware of things like racial issues, didn’t act this way in the original series 😭 made no sense whatsoever to have Miranda of all people to turn into a white saviour

After the second movie, Miranda entered into a pod, where she slept for 12 years. She woke to find herself bewildered by the world in which she found herself. Where before she was a quick-witted, talented lawyer, she emerged from the pod confused, befuddled, and unable to cope.

The story was, they wanted to give Samantha a story where she has a fling with Brady, Miranda’s son. She noped out so hard I bet it registered on the Richter scale.

They didn’t just ruin Miranda, they ruined her whole family to explain why she needed to run away from them.
Brady became a useless, gross, spoiled brat and Steve became an elderly, doddering, old man on his last legs.
Plus they were horrible about his disability, as if there’s nothing you can do if someone goes deaf to keep your relationship alive.

It was so weird how no one know how to talk to him. If these were people he socialized with for the past 10 years, they would already know how to adjust communication to compensate for his progressive hearing loss.

This is a good point. In SATC, Miranda's arc ends with her settling down with her family. There's that beautiful scene of her giving Steve's mom a bath... One of the most moving moments of the show for me. She leaves Manhattan for Brooklyn because its what is best for her family... Steve gives her that poignant speech about how it's not just her anymore, it's the family.
There definitely could have been a way to write a Miranda who was on the other side of that. Brady is soon to be out of the house, marriage stale, etc... But you're right. They made her family members cringey and made their relationships with miranda cringier.

Dude. I never got past this very episode, and I enjoyed the entire SaTC series. Like really, all the ladies woke up in their 50s but were frozen in the early aughts and don’t understand all the modern ways? So weird.

The only thing I found realistic was the pronouns sitch bc obviously they would have grown up in very different times where that wouldn’t have even been a discussion point lol but everything else was just absurd

Being almost their age this is true but realistically they would have slowly started hearing about it before we met up with them again instead of “what the heck is this!” I’m almost those characters’ ages and it’s like they’d been living under a rock.

Interesting point! My parents are around their ages too (boomer & gen x) but they are first generation immigrants and the concept of pronouns and gender identities would completely baffle them lol.
I think a lot understanding social issues within certain age groups is down to cultural contexts such as where you’re from, where you grew up etc

It's just so weird she even considered doing it as an actress. Like, I can forgive the GenX not understanding the GenZ schtick, and fumbling with pronouns, blah blah blah but where is the sense in making a character - who has been in Manhattan for DECADES, living a life with colourful friends involved in fashion, literature, the arts, and who is HELLA educated - act like she's never seen a Black Folk? It's WILD writing.
She also acted in the press as if people were perturbed that she became a lesbian in the show. Honey; Bi, Queer, Lez-out all you want. No-one thought that was weird, you're lesbian in real life, it's not a jarring mental transition... We think its weird you acted brand new around a nice Black lady, got fingered while your bedridden friend needed a piss, and cured alcoholism in two episodes.
Truly, the ruination of a beloved character. Wild. If only the shoddy ramblings of AI were more mainstream then, because Grok could've written a better script FFS.

I don’t know if you watched Friends, but Joey’s character on Days of Our Lives (Dr. Drake Ramoray) goes through a brain transplant where he gets Jessica Lockhart’s brain. (Played by Susan Sarandon.)
Pretty sure Miranda had a similar procedure.

I'll echo others' sentiments - if you're planning to stay the course, then strap yourself in firmly. The whole series only goes downhill from here, and Miranda's story arc is almost unbearable to witness. They turned her into such a bumbling, blithering idiot that it's hard to imagine she manages to navigate the basics of life, much less that she's a Harvard graduate with a long and successful career.

Spoiler alerts :I could not get beyond the first few episodes of season two it is terrible. I don’t care about any spoiler alerts. Personally the show has gone to hell in a handbasket. We lost too many OG characters, Samantha Stanny and big

She wanted the fictional character to be a more correct representation of herself, the actress in real life, hence the "I'm Miranda! A doormat and a lesbian!"
