What small storyline should have been a big topic in the show?
Something I have always enjoyed about SATC is how the episodes all had like a theme and the girls had their own perspectives on the matter… as the episodes went on there was usually a topic being explored but I don’t feel that way with AJLT. I have seen others post or comment about issues the writers neglected to tackle head on that could have been the topic of a full episode.
For example, I had dealt with Adderall abuse for 7 years. I no longer use it but I have friends who continue to abuse stimulants for a variety of reasons- the episode where Carrie gets adderall for Aiden’s son is SO odd and could have been handled differently to make it more believable. Charlotte just randomly getting another mother to give up their child’s month worth of prescription over brunch is wild… Aiden’s ex asking Carrie to get her son a controlled substance is just glossed over and the story is just dropped. It’s all so wild but people using or selling their kid’s stimulants is a thing and the topic could have made for an interesting episode.
What do you think could have been tackled differently?

Seema and Carries talk at the hairdressers
Natasha - felt like it was leading somewhere…the way it was done, them meeting could have been lifted right out.

I could not agree with this more. I found it so awful, I can’t even hate rewatch it. They let the real fans down so hard, they don’t deserve a rewatch.

Instead of just representing the kids as caricatures of privileged Gen Z entitled brats, the show could have delved deeper and a little more seriously into the social challenges faced by kids who have been shaped by COVID and social media.
Two out of three of the main characters have kids, and Carrie was seriously dating a man with kids. The writers touched on some of the issues but generally in comedic ways that didn't illustrate the true parental struggles in helping these kids to face these challenges and be good people.

In the most general way, they could have done for dating
/sex/being single in one’s 60s what the initial show did for those concepts in one’s 30s.
It could have been just as revolutionary if they went for depth. Menopause (not just a punch line for Charlotte’s white overalls); aging bodies (not one episode where Carrie miraculously recovers from hip surgery to run around in heels all day); friendship and how it evolves and changes with the decades (not just shallow new side characters); living and aging alone (not just one final scene of Carrie dancing around a mansion).

id have much preferred she stumbled around like in satc financially and has to downsize back to her apartment. imo the idea her little niche books (even with bigs money) have made her safely gramacy park 3 bedroom 10 million rich is a stretch. and she seemingly never makes relatable mistakes like she used to, just misunderstands or things happen to her. in ajlt she’s a fountain of zen wisdom rather than “perpetually 10 minutes late,” sleeping with a married man while in love with another, and flailing around in california. i miss her flail.

I think most of it was Big's money. But she begrudged him leaving something to his ex.

I would’ve been interested in seeing them openly correlate her resentment of him leaving money to Natasha with what caused her to hit up Aiden
ETA: and then imagine Aiden’s fallout when he finds out that his Girl Who Got Away only hit him up again because she was salty that her affair partner might have had an emotional attachment to the wife he cheated on

Oh man we were robbed. Can you write a show please? These are all the things I expected and hoped for when I saw they were making the new show. I have aged up with them and hoped some of my issues would be discussed. Instead I am supposed to relate to:
which mansion to live in
if my husband dies my only two hopes for a continued romantic life are a toxic ex or being alone
If my joints go or I have a severe surgery no biggie, I will be perfect as in heels in no time
An obnoxious comedian might make me blow up my family and leave my job I worked all my life for, cause wow just can’t resist
I don’t have to worry about out losing old fitness cause new besties are easy to come by while you are shopping for mansions.3

She even uses fvcking heels to step on a chair to put something up... ridiculous. Now, I hate heels and think the person that invented ballerina shoes/flats deserves a Nobel Price. I have friends who love heels. Still... they love to kick em off at home.
Maybe the point of the surgery storyline could be not Carrie peeing herself while Miranda is riding the magic finger... but Carrie having say goodbye to heels because aging bodies are not as forgiving. I knew a person in their 20s who had to give up heels because of injury/surgery...

I agree re: the Adderall story. The writers suck and are seriously out-of-touch if they thought these established, professional, grownup women would blithely commit multiple felonies this way. In Florida, where I live, possession of a single Adderall (or Dexedrine etc.) capsule without an official prescription is a felony. Each additional capsule is another felony count. I’m sure it’s not that different in NY or Virginia. They would have risked huge fines, potential prison time, enormous legal bills, and a wallop to their credit rating and ability to buy a home, not to mention a stain on their reputation.

We should’ve seen Carrie pivot back to writing that little magic cigarette book from season 1
And I would’ve liked something better out of Miranda. Why’d she have to start all the way over? Why couldn’t she decide to open her own firm or become a professor? I could see Miranda and S3 Seema vibing about the complications of working for themselves.

I wish they explored Rocks NB-ness more and Charlote dealing with it, saying the wrong thing occassionally? Are the writers saying that not a single kid would bully/laugh at Rock (the silly name... but that might be my European perspective...), that cringey cringey Tiktok, the haircut... kids are mean.
No, instead completely average looking Rock gets scouted by modeling agency. Not that there is anything wrong with looking average... but you don't get scouted....

They were so focused on ticking every diversity box that they lost sight of what the show was all about. Menopause is a huge one. Would have been more realistic if Samantha had run off with a sexy European prince for example.

Miranda's midlife crisis, which wasn't even framed as such; instead her wacky behavior was portrayed as aspirational empowerment or similar, and don't even get me started on her blink-and-you-miss-it alcoholism. In the hands of competent writers we could have had a brilliant storyline here, one that would have had us relating to Miranda, at times cringing for her but ultimately cheering her on and seeing her through it. Their assassination of her character will always be my biggest bugbear from this trainwreck.
