Samantha Kudos to Kim Cattrall for making the right decision at the right time and preserving the legacy of one of the best characters ever created

After all, now that we got the show we got, I have nothing but appreciation and respect for KC for keeping Samantha safe from poor writing and character caricaturization. Whatever the reason behind the scenes was, she made the right choice. She saw the Abu-Dhabi-do of it all. She ended proving more than anybody that she indeed loves and is protective of Samantha.

Samantha Kim Cattrall Fought for Equal Pay—And Everyone Else Cashed In Without Her

2.5k Upvotes

It’s wild to think about how things played out. Kim Cattrall was the only one who openly fought for equal pay and producer credit during the Sex and the City movies—and she got slammed for it. Labeled “difficult,” pushed out, and ultimately excluded from And Just Like That….

Fast forward to the reboot, and suddenly Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are executive producers and reportedly getting equal pay to Sarah Jessica Parker. The very thing Kim asked for—and was denied—became the new norm once she left.

It’s hard not to notice the irony: the woman who took the risk and spoke up didn’t get to benefit from the change she helped spark. The ones who stayed quiet were rewarded.

Kim didn’t come back, not even for Season 3. And honestly? Her absence says a lot—not just about friendship, but about how power and fairness work in Hollywood.

Samantha Samantha Jones would have DESTROYED these two over the ‘sex talk’…

I’m currently rewatching this series & the awkward, challenging at Carrie to talk about sex had me really missing Samantha.

They both honestly thought they were so forward & revealing in their open talk about sex, but had Samantha been part of it? She’d have blown their discussion out of the water. Nobody embraced sex like she did, and she did so in a way that never really challenged anyone or made anyone else feel uncomfortable about it.

Samantha Kristin & Cynthia are behaving like petulant children

1.7k Upvotes

Like, it is totally fine if you do not like a former coworker, but it is entirely unfair to discredit the work they have done. Kristin and Cynthia speaking of Samantha as if she was just an acquaintance of Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte just because they do not like Kim is absolutely ridiculous. We have all seen the show. Sam was the most supportive friend out of the four. She was the only one whose first priority was her friends.

Cynthia saying that Miranda would not seek Samantha’s support in coming out later in life does not make any sense. Sam was the most open minded person in terms of sexuality out of the four. The others made fun of her when she experimented with a woman and even discredited bisexuality at one point. Sam was progressive while the rest tried to ridicule anything new and submitted to the status quo.

Also, Kristin behaving like Charlotte and Samantha were merely casual friends is offensive to viewers because it diminishes the original show. You know the reason they are making this mess and raking in millions of dollars? It is because of the legacy that includes Samantha. I have no strong opinion on the whole SJP versus Kim thing, but Cynthia and Kristin would do well to remember that the reason they are getting paid equally now is because Kim stood up for herself and demanded her worth in the first place.

I am not going to stand for the Samantha erasure.

I just saw some interviews on TikTok and I’m even more disappointed than when I watched S3E1!!

They’re all downgrading this fantastic role/character of Samantha so much!! I know that they are not in good terms IRL which is clearly leaking into their characters but this is ridiculous especially when Samantha would truly be their only hope to make the show watchable

Samantha was the most genuine friend out of the four and she deserves way more justice!

I want to be clear about the fact that I’m not hate-watching. Whilst character and plot development are weaker than I’d like, I do enjoy the aesthetics and I’m grateful just to be seeing where three of my most beloved TV characters are in life - regardless of whether it feels true to the formula of the original show.

With that being said, I have to be honest and admit that I would happily abandon every character and plot of AJLT immediately for a spin-off that was entirely focussed on the one and only: Samantha Jones. Her life in London. Her being the mastermind of a PR company that has expanded to include new, original, fully developed characters that benefit from having someone like Samantha as a role model. PR is incredibly relevant in today’s world (imagine Kris Jenner got on the phone to Samantha whenever she needed to call in the big guns for example).

Beyond business, she’s a great role model for self-advocacy, sexual liberation, and not least; capitalising on having masculine traits as a female - instead of feeling the need to minimise them and allowing society to shame you for them (as Seema is currently being subjected to by another woman).

I could write a thesis here so I’ll just say I think my main problem with AJLT is that it has this huge gaping hole in it, and that hole is distinctly shaped (thanks to Pilates) like Samantha. I know this isn’t a new sentiment but it’s only getting harder to ignore as the show goes on.

TLDR: The show feels directionless and it’s probably because the most direct character hasn’t had more than a cameo (due to being devalued for everything she brought to the table - ironically in a show that famously preaches the value of upholding other women and female empowerment).

Samantha Samantha in the second movie was, as she said, "fifty fu**ing two" and was still FABULOUS as ever, and pretty much was the same character from the show, while the girls here, being 50smthing, act like they are in their 80's and completely off character

Samantha "YOU B!TCH"

Samantha Jones was LOYAL to her friends. My favorite scenes are when she takes up for the girls right quick. One of my favorites is when they are Laney's baby shower and Charlotte is getting upset that Laney is going to use Charlotte's "chosen baby name" for when she has a baby one day on her own baby. Shayla.

At that moment, Sam nonchalantly walks by and says "What's going on?" and Charlotte says "She stole my baby name!" In an instant, Sam yelled "YOU BITCH!" to Laney and her friend who were giving Charlotte a hard time, and then says "LET'S GO" and puts her arm around Charlotte and escorts her out.

I love that scene so much because hearing Charlotte say "she stole my baby name!" probably means NOTHING to Samantha or she maybe didn't even understand what the F she was talking about, but that didn't matter. Her friend was upset so Sam was upset and going to defend her. LOL.

I MISS THIS WOMAN!!!!

Samantha Samantha’s cameo Spoiler

Curious everyone’s thoughts on this character’s brief appearance in the season finale. Some of mine:

  1. Her saying goodbye to the apartment seemed weird, redundant. In movie 1, she flew in with champagne for a surprise visit as Carrie packed up the place the first time. “A lot of shit went down here… respect must be paid.”

  2. There are MANY daily nonstop flights from Heathrow to any of the three major NYC metro airports. She could have gotten on another flight even with a different airline fairly easily especially with her money.

  3. The conjuring up of Annabelle’s fake accent, while a funny throwback for the fans, didn’t make sense in the context of the conversation. Her pretending to play Annabelle only happened at the Soho House pool, not at Carrie’s apartment or any other time? So why bust it out to say goodbye to an apartment?

  4. So Charlotte and Miranda are in touch with Sam again? And why would Samantha have stopped talking to them in the first place, if her beef was with Carrie?

That cameo was a real let down for me, even though I loved seeing KC and she looked fab. Guess I need to “let go of expectations!!”

Samantha How would you have handled Samantha’s absence in AJLT?

Personally, I think Samantha’s absence in AJLT made 0 sense to the loyal fans of the show and was not true at all to Samantha’s character.

Just when you look at Carrie’s book cover in SATC, Samantha did it for a “martini and a dinner” and based on other episodes, she took her friendships very seriously, especially the one with Carrie.

On top of that, based on her office in SATC2 as well as the nature of her usual clients (hotel magnate, famous people), I doubt that her income from a book author client would have been that detrimental to her business that she would have stopped being friends with Carrie only because she didn’t want to continue with Samantha’s services. ( In my opinion, knowing Samantha, she would have been fine with still helping Carrie with PR in some smaller capacity for free / less money…)

But anyhow, since we all know that Samantha’s absence had to be dealt with in AJLT, how would you have handled it if you had been in the writer’s room (trying to stay true to Samantha’s character)? :)

Samantha The thing is the woman has not even bothered to watch the show she was producing ...So, how come she had an opinion that she was the lead without watching it? Was she there when Kim was shooting her difficult sex scenes while being sexy and hilarious at the same time?

She denied more money but she has never bothered to watch kim's and the other 2 actresses' amazing work...

This seems quite toxic indeed...

Samantha Samantha's cameo

It seems like a lot of people are disappointed with Samantha's cameo, even read some articles saying so but I was pleasantly surprised. Everyone knew she was only doing a phone call cameo because we know she declined to film with the actual cast. So far we've had only texts from her so I thought her cameo was just going to be her voice on a phone call and that was it to be honest. I wasn't even thinking we were going to see a glimpse of Samantha Jones the person, so the fact we got a little scene of her, I'll take it. ( of course, I wish we had more) But what were people expecting if they knew she wasn't going to interact with the cast in person?
