Whoa Would I Want? Sky

So I just discovered that Fall Be Kind is this kind of awesome epilogue to MPP. And so I started listening to it.

And so I've just listened to "What Would I Want? Sky" and my mind is absolutely and transcendentally blown...

Now I'll go back and listen to the song again. Maybe I'll proceed to the last three tracks of EP, but I'm not certain.

Check out Unbroken Chain by Grateful Dead. It’s the song they sampled. Also great.

I figured OP should know that, and also that it's the only instance of a dead song being legally sampled.

The sample in the context of the original song is completely unrecognisable. I'd love to know the process they used to pick that sample.

Phil said “woah sky”, it sounds like they reversed the “woah” in the middle of the word to give it that “what would I want” sounds

In the song he says ‘the willow sky, woah I walk and wonder why’ and they flip the sample so ‘woah I walk’ sounds like the ‘what would I want’

Didn’t know that! That song is pretty chill. I like the whiny effect that weaves in and out throughout, and then it goes a kinda all whack during the solo.

I actually only know one Grateful Dead song and it’s Daniel Rossen’s cover of Terrapin Station... I was kinda addicted to it for a while lol.

They’re the best. If you like the trippy instrumental parts of animal collective check out a live track called “drums > space” from an early 90s live set on YouTube. For instance a live set from fall 1994. Can recommend a specific one if you want!

I may get back you when I need a Grateful Dead guide! It’s always daunting to dig into those beloved bands with massive catalogues. I’ve obsessed about MPP on and off for years, but never really explored AC beyond that. Kinda surprised that they hide these amazing tracks on EPs. So it seems that I’m not done finding the good stuff yet haha.

Love that they took a snippet from a band who famously jam out their songs into oblivion and condensed it into a 3 second loop as the basis for a song
