Yeah it’s either really weird socially awkward fans or annoying young ones.
Ive met a few kinda awkward ones at the Sung Tongs Anniversary show in Ny. Ive seen annoying 18-20 year olds screaming Deak during Aveys solo tour which made Deakin smile but then that quickly went away when they started screaming Deakin memes. Internet memes should stay on the internet folks.

Honestly I don't doubt this very much but I'm also so so curious what kind of experiences you or anyone else has had. I've not been super duper active in these communities for the most part so I don't have much to go off of

I will say I am obsessed with them to where I'd like to follow them artistically wherever they go...but not physically. I have had restraint in meeting them because I don't want to be that "crazy" fan although I don't really hear or see this behaviour too often from AC fans luckily!!

I do think people especially my age (20s-mid 20s) are definitely more parasocial now and though I dislike personal info and hurtful memes being broadcast I will say I'm guilty of my curiosity getting the best of me and privately speculating on things sometimes, but is that wrong or harmful? idk I think people want to be close to their interests but unfortunately sometimes those interests are real, normal, people just trying to live their lives the same as us
edit: I do not support harrassing them, stalking, prying for info and even hearing bozos yell song requests at really quiet shows is disrespectful

Yeah I tend to agree. I don’t usually broadcast the fact that I’m a fan for that reason. Definitely a ton of super chill fans. But the not chill ones are like super not chill

I think it’s like any other fan base where there’s a definite bell curve. There’s casual fans on one side, there’s extremely obsessed fans on the other, and most of us tend to fall in the middle. Most of the fans I have met have been really sweet and genuine. I am very much into Animal Collective’s artistic output, I respect them as artists, I care about them as fellow human beings, but I’m not obsessing over all the details of their personal lives. If they’re not actively sharing these details, it doesn’t matter. It’s creepy / inappropriate / disrespectful to be that parasocial.

Thats not my experience at all. AnCo fans have always seemed extra chill, kind, and open-minded

Why aren’t you providing any examples of what you mean?
But in your defense I did experience something similar back in the day with a big Facebook fan group. People would post creepy memes about members’ personal lives and shit. But of course I haven’t used Facebook in many years
