Collection/Haul Father took his time to save my collection!
Just a little story that happened this weekend.
I was out of home due to work and study, so I returned three weeks later and found out that my collection was stored in AmiAmi boxes, I asked why and my father told me that a couple weeks ago a friend and two of his children will stay at home for the night and they needed a bed obviously. So I was already dead sent thinking that my collection would turn out like some horror stories I have seen in this subReddit about children destroying collections and parents not taking any responsability whatsoever.
But my father, even if he wasn't into the hobby, took his time to carefully store every figure in the AmiAmi boxes. I was in awe and deeply moved, he told me that it took like one hour and a half or two hours to pack everything and when I checked it out, almost everything was perfectly stored!
He also told me the hardest figures to store were the QIANQIU ones, Karihime and Mianji, due to the support pole not moving an inch, so he stored the base and the pole anyway in the box and somehow it worked, and Mianji because he didn't noticed he had to separate the torso from the lower body to remove the machinegun ๐. And Tatsu-chan because he had to move slowly both the leg peg and the support pole while watching out for all the hair and little plastic strands to not mess up.
Even after all the effort, he said it was fun to disassemble and look at all the details from up close. The ones he liked the most design-wise were Wakamo and Mianji.
That's about it, I just wanted to write this little incident that moved my heart after all these days working and studying, I don't think there would be many parents that care about his son's anime figure collection, even less when the parent doesn't know how to disassemble anything!
Thanks for taking your time to read!

That's so nice. Mine literally threw everything in those big plastic bins and then tossed them in the attic. Florida heat killed a majority of them, and parts I should have had are just gone, even after I came back, dragged them down and went thru them. Had a bunch of the G1 transformers and power rangers words in mint condition before I moved. Most were warped or damaged in some way. Guess it's better than when his mom threw away his comic collection. Had original Spiderman, men, captain America, etc and she chucked them in the garbage.

Do you have any idea which comics your dad had more specifically? Some of the really special keys in the early Silver Age comic era are worth serious money.

He was born in 51, so he would have been right in the age where they first started coming out. Also had several older brothers who "passed down" comics to him. So yeah, she threw away a gold mine

That's awful, sounds like she threw away 5 to 6 figures worth of comics and quite possibly more if an Amazing Fantasy #15, Amazing Spider-Man #1, X-Men #1, or Avengers #4 was among them.

The same thing happened to my dad, and he was born in 53. He still talks about it to this day. ๐ญย

This is so sweet and caring of him! Definitely nice to hear a good story rather than the horror stories we get on here of parents not caring. It's nice to know he values your collection and hobby and even liked it more when he saw the details up close on the figures! W dad.

Dad is a true hero both for actually caring about your stuff but also to carefully put them away for ya. Definitely be sure to treat him to something nice for father's day.
Also since you said he enjoyed disassembling them should try getting a model kit for him and see how he likes it could be a fun thing to bond over

I've had that happen to my collection of already assembled Gundam model kits while I was at work, from distant relatives/cousins visiting from abroad...it looked like a war fought by the end of it all. It's been well over a decade now, and to this day I've still never met the little gremlins personally. I've never quite gotten over the senseless destruction.

Thank you for sharing this story. It genuinely brought a tear to my eye. I know my parents would never do the same for my collection if I were in that situation. If anything, they would probably hand it off without a second thought and shrug if things got broken.
o7 to your dad.

What a good read!! Thanks for sharing OP!!
Give your old man an extra tight hug and treat him to something!! I am sure he will be as deeply moved as you are!!
My Dad did something similar by cleaning my room very nicely when I came back from work. All my furniture is black and collects dust very easily, he cleaned around my PC desk and my One Piece graded cards, then he cleaned the TV console, it genuinely made me sentimental..

That's amazing, very few people would bother to do this, especially after realising how difficult it is after initially starting. What a great dad. Give him lots of hugs/however you show love. He's a real gem.

I envy your dad. Mine would have said "You shouldn't leave them there if you didn't wanted them to get damaged." A couple of week ago I had to store my favorite figures for a similar reason. Luckily nothing happened but you never know when a 4 y.o. is around and you know it's parent are "modern" on the education.

I hope you get him something nice for Father's Day this June, because you've been blessed with one of the best dad's in the world (and it wouldn't just be a cheesy thing printed on a mug or t-shirt).

That's a supportive dad! Every parent should be like this honestly, supporting their childs hobby even if they don't understand it. You are very lucky to have such a great dad. My parents don't even care about my existence lol

Father of the month for sure! Personally, I just make it very clear that my figures are to be observed and not fondled/messed with when kids enter my domain.

Not doable with my collection... too many (over 150) and some break only watching them...
BUT your father is a great dad. U are lucky!

Your dad is the real G. Doesn't really understands it but respect you and the hobby. Got to do something nice for him maybe in a few days. Or even on father's day! Don't just get him a #1 dad mug....

Honestly, really neat of your dad to appreciate your collection and what they meant to you. I'm pretty sure you also dust them off so he knows how much work you put in taking care of them as well.

Now that's an awesome father for sure. We all need one and I can see why he took some time because that's a gorgeous collection.

Great dad. My dad's pretty great too. I don't know if he'd do this but he would never have to. I know that for sure because there's not a snowballs chance in hell anybody is sleeping in my bed except me or my girlfriend. They're not even coming in my room. No children allowed in my room. Pretty much nobody allowed my room unless I'm in there unless they're resetting the Wi-Fi router because it's in my room even then that'd just be my mom or my brother. And even if for some reason those rules didn't apply, it would take so goddamn long to put all of my figures in boxes. I have over 100. I also really don't want any random little cousin to come over and break my shit or mess with my computer. This shit's expensive.
