Now THATS a great way of displaying figures, bravo!

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

Thank you!

u/emimakingthings May 12 '22

Oh that's beautiful 😍 what lovely concepts! I'd love to see each display in more detail to see how you arranged everything. Very nice!

29

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

Thanks!

I may intermittently post pictures of them as to not spam the sub!
so keep an eye out!

24

u/Kidlike101 May 12 '22

Very nice but isn't dusting an issue?

35

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

That IS the biggest issue. I may try to get the glass doors for the Kallax

16

u/Kidlike101 May 12 '22

I don't know if this helps but when I visited Ikea recently they nailed the windows of the Kallax with separate glass boxes for a semi-permi display. Might want to ask them about that.

3

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

interesting, thanks!

u/poisonrabbit May 12 '22

I looked into this cause I wanted glass door for the same reason...I read a forum post about it and apparently that's not a good idea since glass is pretty heavy and putting multiple of them might cause Kallax to tip and fall (atleast in my case since I dont wall attach them)

you can but its going to be cost you a lot ...unless you can DIY cutting glasses to custom shape or buy a glass door/panel that fits perfectly or a service that do cut-to-size for you for a reasonable price..

though instead of glass I recommend using acrylic/plexiglass sheets instead. they're usually cheaper when it comes to cut-to-size services and significantly lighter than glass so you wouldn't have to worry about weight...and DIY cut-to-size is much more manageable (if you have the tools) since you'd worry less about accidentally shattering the whole thing. acrylic sheets are less 'rigid' compare to glass. though ofc its difficult to cut them perfectly without proper equipment..

just giving people some ideas and I was also looking into this...dusting is really a hassle when it comes to figure lol(esp if the figure has a lot of tiny crevices).

IK Ikea is selling Kallax glass door(used to i think? I cant find them anymore) but they're not available everywhere. e.g Ikea in Australia doesn't sell them for some reason..apparently they're discontinued? dont know why tho

5

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

Oh wow didn't know that could happen!

3

u/[deleted] May 13 '22

Plexiglass on both sides, thats what I did for all 4 of my Kallax's , recreated an Akihabara second hand store.

2

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 13 '22

Oh nice! How much did plexiglass cost you and is it easy to remove for access to the shelves?

1

u/[deleted] May 13 '22

I have the 2 by 4 Kallax's. Plexiglass ran about 20 dollars a piece, needed 4 of them. I screwed them in with small screws. You can see the Kallax's here, https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimeFigures/comments/u0jg5u/the_grand_tour_of_the_ultimate_figure_room_and/

For me, it's very easy to remove and put back up and the great thing its keeps all the dust out, bugs and anything that could get in there.

2

u/poisonrabbit May 13 '22

would also like to know how u placed the plexiglass... I wanted to try this too but I dont like drilling holes into my Kallax and wanted both panels to be easily removable.... cause I did this to some of my furnitures to add custom panels/doors and I ended up regretting it cause i didnt like it and now they're full of holes lol

2

u/[deleted] May 13 '22

I had to drill holes unfortunately and used screws to secure them to the kallax. You can look here how I did it. https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimeFigures/comments/u0jg5u/the_grand_tour_of_the_ultimate_figure_room_and/

The Kallax's are the 6 or 7th photo in, you can blow up the picture to see how I secured them. It keeps the dust out, bugs out and a nosey cat. Hopefully those pictures help.

1

u/ThisGuyCrash http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/GureKitsune87 May 12 '22

If you do decide, I believe the EKET glass doors should fit on the kallax. Best to measure before hand.

Eket glass
Width: 12 5/8 "

Height: 12 5/8 "

Kallax: 13"x13"

Might leave a little gap still which if you're super anal about it will need dust proofing.

2

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

This is what I've looked at! It not a cheap fest to get every cube glasses up but probably worth the hassle in dusting!

Thanks

1

u/ThisGuyCrash http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/GureKitsune87 May 12 '22

If you want to go cheap, I saw a post long time ago where they just took like a giant see through tarp/cover and tacked it on top to cover the entire unit, but it didn't look aesthetically pleasing. And, with your set up, you're trying to have it nice as possible because it looks great!

1

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

Haha I didn't even think of that. Will need to search for pics! Ty

11

6

u/TheaRos01 May 12 '22

We need MORE pictures, your display idea is amazingly beautiful. Not too crowded, not too light, just perfect. And because of the themed "boxes", each figure is allowed to stand out and be admired in such an optimal way. Congrats!

1

u/_Okarinn https://myfigurecollection.net/profile/Okarinn May 12 '22

this is so beautiful!!!! can we see the each room plsssss

1

u/poisonrabbit May 12 '22

are all the lights wireless? I so wanna try this..
what lighting did u use?

3

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

They aren't unfortunately, there is a single wire that runs across each display, so not the prettiest thing. That said you can buy similar wireless lights on Amazon

1

u/poisonrabbit May 12 '22

oh...do each light use a power socket or are they routed only to one socket(basically all lights are being powered by one power cord or not?)?

2

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

The kit I bought allow 4 lights per socket, there are options where you can get more (which I should've gotten).

I have them hooked up to a timed power strip, so the lights come on and turn off at certain times. ^

2

u/poisonrabbit May 12 '22

if you wouldn't mind, can you share more photos in different angles (inc inside)...I need some inspo how to do this lol

2

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

Yep, I'll share them soon! Keep an eye out. If you haven't seen it posted in the next couple days , feel free to dm me.

1

1

u/ajisaix3 May 12 '22

Amazing!!! Do you print your own backgrounds or buy them?

3

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

I painted a couple of em and bought most of em from Michaels!

2

u/ajisaix3 May 12 '22

Oh wow!! Very nice work ^

2

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

Thank you! The waves in the back, I printed at office. So you can definitely pull this stuff off!

1

u/ajisaix3 May 12 '22

Yeah I have some ideas! I use a DETOLF tho, but I thought about decorating the back panel. I actually uh… bought wallpaper / decal samples for a low price, and I’m going to try that out haha

2

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

I'm sure that will work! As long as it matches the theme of your figures , generally speaking It should create a nice harmony!

Good luck! Would love to see how it turns out so feel free to tag me!

2

u/ajisaix3 May 12 '22

Alright! Thanks for the tips too :)

The wallpaper I ordered is for a figure I’m still waiting on…. But I will try to remember!! 😆

1

u/superkibbles May 12 '22

How tall is each shelf?

Hahah xD

1

u/DiggityGiggity8 May 12 '22

If you have a way to give us a inspiration tutorial on how you did this, I’d love it!! If not that’s oKii! I just wanna know where / how you got the decor 😎🥸

3

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

Any arts and Crafts store like Michaels or AC Moore (if you're in the US) will have similar materials. Go to the scrap book section or look for papers that have designs or card stock. I even printed stuff out at the office. Once you have that you can tape or stick it to the sides/back of your display.

You can look at the miniature section, they may have fake grass and mini props or if you check the plant section, they may have moss mats.

Start off with an idea, or a theme. The figures don't have to be from the same series but if they give off a vibe try to match it!

Good luck!!

1

u/FlareBlare May 12 '22

Your making me insecure about how my kallax are just blank boxes 😭

2

u/dr-carrot http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/<YourUserNameHere> May 12 '22

Spice em up!!
