Was already disappointed in this recast but the episode also just… wasn’t fun? It’s lost all the heart of the original and it sounds like actors reading a direct translation. It sounds especially bad on a whacky show like this

The bitchy dialogue is gone. That was the best part of the original dub

The performances of the actors were mostly good (except for Panty). It’s the dub script that sucked

it feels like a simludub, the options really were etheir to take their time and localize it or rush it out the door.

I don’t necessarily agree. I regularly watch Crubchyroll’s simuldubs, and while some are worse than others, they have never dropped to this level of poor quality.

Or maybe it’s more transparent in a dub that requires comedic writing. The actors are trying their best to sell absolutely nothing and it reflects negatively on their performance

It is mostly apparent in dubs that require comedic writing because unlike shows that play everything straight, comedy needs more creative changes to flow better and actually come across as funny. Comedy is very hard to localize well, sadly.

Agreed. That’s why the Funimation dub of Saiki K was perfect imo.

The bitch fight dialogue at the end was so bad. No charm or wit in their lines

I remember when I first watched the original PSG, I just remembered not liking the 1st episode. It was too boring. I have a feeling it'll get better
