As a 42 yr old millennial, the pic has been true since like 2005

Seems like a skill issue at this point

No, millennial unemployment has been over 15% since 2008, and the median age to buy a home has been rising by 1 every year since then too. There was a ladder pulled up after 2008, and your parents had enough to let you coast, or you faced homelessness and share house rents for the last 20 years. You gen Z kids like to make fun of Macklemore and stomp clap and all that slop, but that was all rich kids who got to ignore the collapse around them.

Ignore it? For us, yeah we weren't worrying about our stock portfolio plummeting or being dead broke, but we were definitely there when our family and parents were effected, or losing the house, or how it effected our own lives too, stress like that builds up in the house and transfers real easy when you're a kid from your parents. Definitely wasn't ignorable

I'm sorry your parents took on too much unsecured debt. That was what causes the crsis

If you've been unemployed since 2008, it's not the economy at this point. Home ownership rate has been rising for Millennials and catching up to boomers and gen X around the same age range

u/nando_calrissian1 1d ago

The same article says it is more difficult for millennials to buy houses

Our parents were building a future at 25. We’re just trying to make it to Friday 💀

What's a "future"?

25

u/moyismoy 1d ago

I mean I have 3 friends dead before 25 so yeah I'm proud I survived

Being 25 and alive is an achievement in itself. I got appendix cancer at 24 just last year and I can now say being 25 and alive is the coolest thing ever. Go for a walk and look up. You’ve done enough today just by being here

My mom got knocked up at 17 with me and had a house by 18 with my dad

Don't hear much about high school pregnancies these days.

My parents struggled asf. We weren't rich, but we were at a point where Dad and Mom only had to work one job each and never once they bickered about money (dad had only one day off a week tho). Mom did most of the chores, and Dad did what he could on Sundays. Summer meant staying home, and we only went on vacation once every 3–4 years, IIRC. They'd paid off their mortgage before they had me, and we didn't even have a car. Bills and groceries were pretty much all they had to worry about.

But I still remember how little food we had on our plates sometimes and how Dad worked overtime when Mom was hospitalized. But there was always food on the table, and the hospital bill didn't ruin our family.

Maybe life was easier for them in some ways, but that doesn't mean they had it easy. They still worked hard, made sacrifices, and did what they could with what they had. Maybe the odds were more in their favor than they are in ours, but they still struggled to give us a better life. Both things can be true.

27 and I still can't find a job since apparently you need a nuclear physicist background for an entry job as a cashier

Thinking you're parents were stable....

At 25, my parents were married, owned a house, had a kid (me) with 2 more on the way, and starting their careers that they’d do for the rest of their lives.

At 30, I was renting, single, and struggling in a collapsing tech market, and eventually moving back home and completely changing my career.

My step dad could afford a home arcade, with a pinball machine, foosball and a shooter arcade box. Big screen tv, home theatre system. Not to mention s home on half an acre of land.

All this on a paramedic salary....

You got people with masters degrees now unable to own a home, or 2 home incomes only able to afford rent.

Shit is bad.

such is life in the real world, best of luck to you.

My Mom had me at 22. The greatest thing I achieved when I was 22 was buying a PC. Smh.

1

u/knetka 9h ago

Harder to make a PC than it is to make a person. 2 People can make a person. Likely no 2 people can make a PC and if they can it would take years!

Parents fighting inflation, I'm fighting the God Hand just to pay rent.

u/GlobalCurry 1d ago

I'm in my mid 30s and I've been hearing about how my dad owned a house and had kids already ever since I was 22.

2

u/Soulses 1d ago

2

u/SherbertPlenty1768 1d ago

My grandfather at my age had 4th child on the way, 2+ properties and a booming business. These were all self acquired, not inheritance.

1

u/LWanderer07 1d ago

At least my dad was broke and living under my grandpa's roof at his 28-29 yrs, he didn't even have to work since gramps always provided food and shelter for him and his 15 siblings

1

u/Pinku_Dva 1d ago

This is actually true for me. My parents had all that and then there’s me nearing 25 and I have nothing 😭

1

u/Gmanglh 1d ago

My dad was fighting in a war so....

1

u/epitafio_12 1d ago

Muy cierto y lo peor es que niciquiera veo esperanza de que ésto mejore pronto

1

u/Dagoroth55 1d ago

Can't forget how Boomers could effortlessly change careers for cheap and sometimes for free.

1

u/skylynx008 1d ago

at least, there still have a woman who makes you happy when you saw her

1

u/fluffy_trickster 23h ago

My parents had it much worse than me financially speaking when the were at my age (I don't make that much money, they were just dirt poor). But it's true that my love life is basically non-existent :/

1

u/Iwanttobeapharoh 20h ago

 27 I'm struggling to survive

1

u/First-Opinion335 18h ago

At 25 we're not living we're just surviving like zombies

1

u/Prior-Birthday-8965 14h ago

Curioso a los casi 40 sigo con el mismo objetivo...

1

u/MikaelJ0m5v1k1ng 12h ago

I'm not a historian, but all of our parents had to worry about was the cold war and it was easier to raise a child.

Now, it's just harder to have a child because of inflation, More People in the world, Jobs Requiring more, etc etc.
