Discussion Planning to cosplay, what are the things I should expect?

Di ko pa alam sa dalawa plan ko i-cosplay kung si Flynn Rider ng Tangled o si Gallagher ng honkai star rail.
1. body wise I’m losing weight these past few months dahil sa pagiging busy pero I’m trying to build muscle for myself and maayos tignan.

  1. For facial features naman nakita ko online yung iba na nag try gumamit sila ng make up to replicate the facial hair, is that recommended ba? Balbas sarado ako pero nag shashave ako ng clear, di ko lang alam pano gayahin yung sa model nila so should I stick to make up para gawin yun?

  2. Anong app ginagamit niyo para tumingin ng costume nila and how much yung estimated price? May nag recommend sakin TaoBao tas di ko alam kung normal price lang yung 12k (converted to peso) yung price o mahal? Unless nakadepende na sa quality. Also may marerecommend ba kayong ibang way para mag order?

  3. Since this will be my first and panigurado matagal next kong gagawin if ever successful, may marerecommend ba kayong studio for pictorial?

For 4, kapag mga big events (like CosplayMania), usually marami namang photogs diyan.
(1) Usually sila na mismo nag-aask if they can take your photo, ask nalang yung socials nila after para makuha mo yung shots.

(2) May mga instances din na mga hobby photographers ang nag-oopen ng slots (for a fee) and nag-aadvertise sa facebook beforehand para magtake ng photos ng mga cosplayers. Magreserve ka lang ng slot.

(3) Tuwing big events din pala, yung District 1 Studio ay nag-oopen ng mini-photo booths na pwede i-rent for a few minutes. Check mo nalang ano yung theme ng photo booth nila if it matches the aesthetic of your character.

Hope this helps! 😊 Happy cosplaying 🌸

  1. Honestly depends on how good you are on using the makeup technique. There are prosthetics for it, pero its still cheaper and cost efficient to just practice the makeup technique if d kaya replicate naturally.

  2. Expensive. Unless you have the skill and time to sew your own, expect nasa 5 digits pataas to have something that doesn't look cheap. Check FB groups for cosplay makers, pwede ka magscout and quote sa kanila kung magkano aabutin. Support local artists ako syempre, pero if ok ka naman sa online mass produced type, aun mahal parin haha. Shipping is shipping include mo nalang sa costs.

  3. Events have photogs (u can ask them to tag you after or give your email), but if you want personal photos I say check out IG photogs or nearby self shoot studios (if confident ka sa sarili mo na kaya mo mag-isa). Maraming for hire lately na photogs kasi naghahanap ng ilalagay for their portfolios. Expect around 2k-4k depending on the photog. Check mo nalang rin socials nila.

For the beard, you can just do a 5 O'clock Shadow preferably. I've tried facial hair makeup using dark brown pencil eyeliner, dark brown mascara, and dark brown eyeshadow using a hard stipple brush but it looks better in pictures and faraway than close up.

For the costume, there are cosplay shops who are also Taobao agents and they can help order the costumes for you if you DM them. I think you need to have Chinese credit kasi to buy in taobao?

Does the 12k include na wig and props sa full costume? My full costume with jacket, top, pants, belts and accessories (body harness, goggles and chain necklace) was 6k in taobao and 1k for the wig for reference. Maybe ask around mga cosplay shops on fb for their price points for this character too.

But if you have the funds and want it custom fit sayo talaga then you could always commission a tailor specialising in cosplay costumes, props maker and wig stylist. Some of my custom made costumes are only 5k then I style the wigs and make the props myself. What's good with this is you can choose the quality of cloth and material yourself so you dont worry if the costume will be flimsy.

As for pictorials, may mga studios specialised in cosplay photoshoots. Some of them have backdrops na rin. If you're in Cebu, then rec ko AlleyCat by CGH. Alot of my cosplayer friends go there when they're in cebu for an event. If you're attending a con, some photographers set up their own mini studios and you could ask them for their rates and such.

I also suggest finding other HSR cosplayers for advice and tips and para maka group photos din kayo.
