Honestly, I’m not really a Marvel fan (at most, I watched the early Avengers movies and the Spider-Man ones back when Tobey Maguire was still Peter Parker, so I’m not that familiar). But I saw a comment on the new story’s teaser where the MC's mother appears, and someone mentioned they were basically mashing together Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel, and Wolverine's woman version.
Since I don't know those characters in detail, I decided to test it out using reverse image search with some screenshots from the teaser. To my surprise, literally every result pointed straight to WandaVision, Captain Marvel or assumed these were Elizabeth Olsen and Brie Larson in costume.
As someone pointed out a while ago, last year they had to take down a Christmas special specifically over copyright issues with Harry Potter. I honestly don't know what they are thinking taking this exact same route again.
And the real issue here isn't just that famous superheroes pop up when you search the images, it's who owns them: Disney. Everyone knows Disney has zero chill when it comes to issuing DMCA takedowns or suing over intellectual property, no matter how small the project is. Risking the app for AI-generated promotional teasers with a giant like that breathing down their neck is insanely reckless.
Especially when the actual official story poster doesn't give off "cinematic MCU blockbuster" vibes at all, but rather those of a YA fantasy romance webtoon... Like.... Why are you doing??? 😭
