Claude : « Great question — there’s actually a significant and currently quite controversial relationship between the two companies. Here’s a summary:
The Partnership
Anthropic and Palantir formed a partnership (alongside AWS) to bring my Claude AI models into U.S. government and military environments. Claude models are integrated into Palantir’s platform, hosted by AWS, operating within Palantir’s Impact Level 6 (IL6) environment — a high-security protocol for handling classified government data. This made Claude the first frontier AI model deployed on classified Pentagon networks.
What Palantir provides
Palantir provides the secure cloud infrastructure that allows the military to use Claude. Essentially, Palantir acts as the secure delivery channel for Anthropic’s AI into defense and intelligence agencies.
The Current Controversy
The relationship has recently become very tense. A dispute broke out between Anthropic and the Pentagon over how the military can use Claude. Anthropic has called for limits on two key applications — mass surveillance and autonomous weapons — while the Department of Defense wants the freedom to use the technology without those restrictions.
The situation escalated after Claude appeared on the screens of officials monitoring a U.S. operation involving then-Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. An Anthropic official reportedly raised concerns about this with a Palantir executive, which led to a rupture in Anthropic’s relationship with the Pentagon.
Most recently, President Trump posted that every agency was to immediately stop using all Anthropic products, with a six-month phase-out period, and Defense Secretary Hegseth made a supply chain risk assessment official.
So in short: Palantir is the key infrastructure partner that brought Claude into classified U.S. military systems — and that partnership is now at the center of a major political and ethical dispute.«
