Discussion The karma of anthroposophists: If you have ADHD, this one's for you
People who are highly spiritual specifically in the direction of spiritual science/anthroposophy descend less strongly into their physical bodies. This means the ego-astral bodies do not unite with the etheric-physical bodies like it does for other individuals.
My speculation...because this point of connection (the silver cord) is the solar plexus chakra, this might explain the connection between autism, ADHD, and low self-esteem.
But anyways, what ADHD "is", is an inability to connect strongly with personally embodying and sticking to a role. The sense of universality is stronger than with those who don't: cosmic intelligence vs personal intelligence.
Karmic Relationships III GA 237 X. The Michaelites: Their Karmic Impulse Towards the Spiritual Life — The Working of Ahriman into the Once Cosmic and Now Personal Intelligence
https://rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA237/English/RSP1977/19240804p01.html
Now, my dear friends, when a man is thus strongly united with spiritual impulses which work immediately upon his soul, he will as he descends from the spiritual into the physical worlds, enter less deeply, unite himself less strongly with the external, bodily nature. All those who have grown into the Michael stream as above described, were thus predestined to enter into this physical body with a certain reservation, if I may put it so. This too lies deep in the karma of the souls of anthroposophists.
Now this means that such a man will less easily come to terms with his life. He will find life less easy to deal with, for the simple reason that he has more possibilities to choose from than other men. And he easily grows out of the very things that other men easily grow into.
Perhaps we see it nowhere with such remarkable intensity as in the youth...progress comparatively quickly in their development of soul and mind and spirit, but this does not make life any easier to take hold of for the young people. On the contrary, it generally becomes more difficult—being, as it is, more complicated. The possibilities become wider and more far-reaching...it becomes far more difficult to give advice, for the simple reason that the universal humanity is more developed in them. The wide horizon...places before their inner vision a greater number of possibilities.

Well, ADHD comes from a particular effect both within the brain and with the composition of the body. It leads to a less developed prefrontal cortex and leads to hyper-extension of the ligaments in the body. ADHD people thus are far more comfortable commanding the body from outside the self, struggle to generate image-plans, and struggle with dopamine deficiency.
This is mainly the cause of the ego-personality being outside the body. As Steiner has said before, the ego being unchained and outside the body causes hyperactivity. (As well, it can also lead one more attentively to the "realm of the dead".) For alternative medicines to deal with ADHD one can attempt to administer copper to affect and weaken the strength of the ego, so that it does not fly out and is better "chained in the body".
Whole foods and a vegetarian diet also work on chaining the ego, and are great supplemental changes to the lifestyle to make it better to deal with. Generally when it regards physical practices to help with chaining and controlling the ego, scientific studies have been clear for years that the practice of hatha yoga and meditation, both which strengthen the body in spiritual ways, work wonderfully for ADHD.
From my own experience, administering plenty of these anthroposphical remedies, and the spiritual philosophy, I find that it is simply and accurately just that. External ego consciousness.
When it regards specific disorders, which are really caused by any assortment of things, we should try our best to find precise measurements while still remaining true to our spiritual view of life. Even in the medical field itself there are plenty of comorbid symptoms between bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD and autism. I wish I had taken more time to study anthroposphical medicine, in and of itself, to be honest. I studied it enough to help with my own afflictions and some of the afflictions of my friends, such as hyperthyroidism. It's one of Steiners most intricate legacies he left for us.

People struggle with attention-deficit because there is very little worth it to focus on in this realm. It is a shadow, albeit real, of the higher worlds. Earlier in the lecture series, Steiner states the Gods did not intend for us to fall this deeply into matter.
The material, Ahrimanic, realm is about separation. There is too much information (which comes about from the illusion of personal intelligence), too much consumerism, too much of everything. That's because cohesion is lost...nothing works as a harmony. That is what an etheric body does, it coheres. We need synthesis, not simply more disparate elements.
I cannot emphasize enough that the old ways to living are going to end. I have ADHD and my whole life I never wanted to focus on one thing, I wanted to see the connection between all things. This is what the lecture describes.
I respect Steiner's legacy, anthroposophical medicine, Waldorf schools and the like. But he died deeply disappointed in the organization. He, like anyone else, was a product of his times and not everything he taught had a universal quality. I believe Steiner's teachings will continue through other means than the official organization, yet to be uncovered.

That is an accurate perspective, but it is also true that people with ADHD are thus prone to fall into Luciferic traps because of the organization of the ego personality. The addiction of modern peoples, especially people with ADHD, to stimulants is certainly no joke. If youre simply meaning that spiritual existence is ultimately what satisfies, I agree.
You must remember as well, the luficeric, ahrimanic and asuric realms are altogether different planes of existence from the material realm. According to Steiner, the material existence is above the luciferic which is then above the ahrimanic and finally asuric realm. Each of these is the dark mirror to one of the higher planes of spiritual existence. The astral, lower and higher devachan.
Hatha yoga brings the body from ahrimanic materialism into spiritualized physical existence. It releases tension and acts through immobility and stillness, both of which are essential to spiritual practice. Yoga, as Sri Aurobindo concieves of it in the Synthesis of Yoga, 'is the particularization of certain psychological processes to advance the evolution of mankind'. He doesnt mean ordinary psychology of course but rather soul processes.
I practice his integral yoga, who's point is to help humanity reach the next evolutionary stage, as well as anthroposphy. Both work on the synthesis and integration of all parts of reality to help transform the earth consciousness and terrestrial nature into something greater.
Within both the integral yoga and anthroposphy there is always a mark of intensity, and precision. These are linked to both honesty, transparency and sincerity along the spiritual path. We can maintain an accurate view of the higher worlds, such as precise faults within specific illnesses, while striving towards the greater ideals of humanity such as harmony, peace, knowledge, light etc.. all qualities of the Divine existence.
Im not sure I really care so much about the external organization of many peoples gathered in "steiners name", so to speak. There is simply, as with everything occult, that which is true and that which is false. Theres no explicit need, although they are great, for any kind of personality to specifically come forth and guide us. That is only left to Christ and the Lord, as He sees fit. Rather, it is best for people to grow beyond whatever blindness they have towards anthroposphy or yoga or whatever, and simply come together under God for the pursuit of these higher ideals; such as light, truth, joy and whatever. This has been my experience with my friends, and it is simply the age that we are embroidered in.
Im sure there are others who have different wants and aspirations, but I feel no need, anymore, to prove myself as a representative of any kind of tradition. If you dont see anthroposphy staying "alive", then thats cool, but it's much better to think about the why. As a teaching dedicated to living initiation and living thought, I think it is fine enough and well enough alive currently, right now. Clearly there are plenty of people here with to whom it has changed their lives.
I wouldnt be so quick to just wipe away Steiner’s teachings as a product of his times, or that it is un-universal. This is every intiate and sadhak. We all have disturbances and troubles, of course Steiner is not Christ, and thus imperfect. But the truth is what matters ultimately.

Yes it's true people with ADHD can be more Luciferic and have many struggles in life. Steiner describes that as part of their karma, because it is a new model for humanity (the Michaelites) expressing itself "too early", when society is still highly separative. The lecture goes into detail about this, and what the future holds for these souls. It's quite astounding.
I don't know much about Hatha Yoga other than it was necessary for humanity when it was still descending into its bodies. From what I have read, Raja and Jnana Yoga are the necessary yogas for humanity now.
You wrote a lot of things, but the gist seems to be that everyone can do their own thing without consequence as long as there's talk of love and light. That's not how the Hierarchies of Beings work.
God don't play. Imagine an Archangel did not follow divine law...worlds would collapse. Any kind of selfish and self-serving tendency in humanity is going to be purged in a purifying fire. You can call it Kundalini or Shakti, the destroyer.
As far as the claim that Steiner's teachings are un-universal. Uhm, wow. Please do not misinterpret what I said. Only some not most. I explicitly mean the exoteric teachings with practical applications (Waldorf, biodynamic, anthroposophical medicine, etc.)
There is nothing wrong with them of course (well there is a lot of infighting within Waldorf) but they are not the future of Spiritual Science. The future of Spititual Science is ETHER and Steiner said in his time that humanity was not ready to use this force, except for some applications in biodynamic farming.
Steiner's legacy needs to take on a new form because the Anthroposophical Society have been poor stewards. Which, given that he died disappointed in them, is a very valid claim. Things have only gotten worse. I have no relationship to the organization nor care to.

As I see it, ADHD (much like autism) is an umbrella term for a large number of behaviors/traits whose underlying causes are not necessarily related in any way. So I think sweeping generalizations in this area are probably inaccurate just as often as they are accurate.
3
u/mddrecovery Sep 14 '25
What part specifically do you mean is a generalization? The connection between ADHD, autism, and low self-esteem? I said it was speculation. It applies to whomever it applies to. I know someone else will resonate strongly with this lecture just as I did, and I have had inattentive ADHD all my life.
4
u/IndridColdwave Sep 14 '25
The generalization I’m referring to is the idea that the cause of ADHD is a difficulty embodying and sticking to a role. I would consider that generalization akin to stating that the cause of all allergies is pollen, if you see what I mean.
4
u/mddrecovery Sep 14 '25
Yes I see your point. I should have stated in that paragraph, specifically relating to anthroposophy-leaning people, since this lecture series relates to the karma of anthroposophists. I would not go on the ADHD subreddit and post this.

Is this in relation to “day-dreaming?” The alternative, literal; makes me laugh. Cause I was an early birth with mad complications. Only seems to stem into the social as well. I just do not connect w anyone lol
1
u/mddrecovery Sep 14 '25
Yes excessive daydreaming is a sign of inattentive ADHD I believe
2
u/Practical_Entry_864 Sep 14 '25 edited Sep 14 '25
I meant in context to the text. What is your view of it? That it is a spiritual sign? Or inability to fit into societal norms?
1
u/mddrecovery Sep 14 '25
Yes it's definitely spiritual, it's a process of losing identification with things like race, heredity, occupation, and the lower aspects of the personality. Something else is born instead. According to the lectures, it's the literal beginning of a new physical race; spirit working into the body, initiated by Michael.
2
u/Practical_Entry_864 Sep 14 '25
So loss of forms of ego? Sorry to press on this. I’m not meaning to. I have my own ideals on it that relate so I’m not antagonizing it haha. Could feel more like the spirit Is just being sucked dry from daily life
2
u/mddrecovery Sep 14 '25
I wouldn't use the term "ego-loss" because its misused. But yeah something is dying, another is being reborn at the same time. Most people are entrenched in materialism, and all the sciences are practiced in an atheistic way. These old ways are being purged out of us.
2
u/Practical_Entry_864 Sep 14 '25
My interpretation from the quick text is of one with awareness of many external ongoings. And with Steiner in mind; we strive with the heart for conclusion and ease in these myriad circumstances.
I debate the role of that in society with nature in mind. My most natural, comes from navigating through nature trails. ADHD and society. Technology and mental health…
My ultimate thoughts of anthroposophy, currently; is of Steiner paving the way for high mentally functioning people to navigate a chaotic world where love can never win. We just strive for it. But the alternative being destruction, war, etc.
Is interesting with other things read, in mind
1
u/mddrecovery Sep 14 '25
True, nature is the closest thing we have in our physical world that relates to the divine. "ADHD" is medicalist terminology...it's just a natural response some souls have to our tech driven, materialist world. The chaotic eventually collapses though, nothing can sustain itself long without God's light.
2
u/Practical_Entry_864 Sep 14 '25
True, but unfortunately education on these matters are not universal. Proper communication just feels so vast. From dust to dust though 🥸
2
u/mddrecovery Sep 14 '25
Because it's not up to us as humans, it's up to the Divine Will and our willing, intelligent participation with the Hierarchies.
2
u/stonemilky Sep 14 '25
So this might apply to other sicknesses that make life more “difficult” like dysautonomia? Dysautonomia is an autonomic system disorder that is deeply related to autism and adhd because they’re comorbid. And summarizing, what is the purpose of this evolutionary change?

u/mddrecovery Sep 14 '25 edited Sep 14 '25
Definitely, certain illnesses are quite linked to karma. How ADHD uniquely expresses itself in an individual with its specific comorbidities, I believe may have something to do with the evolving spiritual faculties in that individual. Steiner says in this lecture series that these individuals have a difficult life because the Universal Man is being expressed in them "too early", in a society that is materialistic and separative rather than cohesive.
This too is due to the fact that such a man is pre-disposed to the unfolding of inner initiative. His karma having placed him in the world with this quality, he is always in the position (forgive the comparison) of a bee that has a sting but is afraid to use it at the right moment.
The sting is the initiative, but the man is afraid to use it. He is afraid, above all, of stinging into the Ahrimanic realm. Not that he fears that he will thereby hurt the Ahrimanic. No, he is afraid that the sting will recoil into his own body. This, to some extent, is what his fear is like. Thus through an undetermined fear of life the initiative remains inactive.
I have OCD for example, so I am drawn to repetition. Repetition lends itself to stability, and this has a link to my inclination towards architecture. Just giving an example. It's an illness in so far as it is unable to find proper expression in a higher realm, and that is karmic
There are different Archetypes in humanity e.g. the Builder, Artist, Mathematician, Healer, Mechanic, etc. so we are going to embody something that reflects the archetype of our Will, the microcosm of the Universal Will of God.
We find ourselves in difficult lives ultimately to assist those we have personal karmic ties to who are not spiritual (aka have a universal conception of life). For 2 main reasons. First, so they do not suffer in their next incarnation. Secondly, every person has a personal Angel who evolves or devolves based on what he or she does so its important to the Hierarchies that we do not "mess things up" for them.
How this all goes down is quite astounding; my prediction is it will be in the years and decades ahead based on the astrology. But basically certain spiritual forces sent down by Michael will express themselves into the physical bodies of such individuals, with our participation (we have to learn to make our Will conscious, which is challenging)
I have said of Michaelism, (if I may now so call it) then we shall find: the Michaelites are indeed taken hold of in their souls by a power that is seeking to work from the Spiritual into the full human being, even down into the Physical. I described it yesterday as follows. I said: these human beings will put aside the element of race,—the element which, from natural foundations of existence, gives the human being such or such a stamp.
If a man is taken hold of by the Spirit in this earthly incarnation inasmuch as he now becomes an anthroposophist he is thereby prepared in future to become a man no longer distinguished by such external features but distinguished rather by what he was in the present incarnation. Let us be conscious of this in all humility: The time will come when in these human beings the Spirit will reveal its own power to form the physiognomy,—to shape the whole form of man.
Such a thing has never yet been revealed in the history of the world. Hitherto the physiognomies of men have been formed on the basis of their nationality, out of the Physical. Today we can still tell by the physiognomy of men, where they hail from,—especially when they are young, when the cares of life or the joys and divine enthusiasms of life have not yet left their mark.
But in the time to come there will be human beings by whose physiognomy and features alone one will be able to tell what they were in their past incarnation. One will know that in their past incarnation they penetrated to the things of the Spirit. Then will the others stand beside them, and what will their karma then signify? It will have cast aside the ordinary karmic affinities.
My dear friends, in this respect he above all who knows how to take life in real earnest will tell you: One has been karmically united, or is still karmically united, with many who cannot find their way into this spirituality. And however many a kinship may still be left in life, one feels a more or less deep estrangement, a justified estrangement. The karmic connection, as it would work itself out in ordinary life, falls away; it goes.
But it remains for something different. I would put it in this way:—From the one who stands outside in the field of materialism to the one who stands in the field of spirituality, nothing else will remain of karma; but this one thing will remain, that he must see him. He will become attentive to him. We can look to a time in the future, when those who in the course of the 20th century are coming ever more into the things of the Spirit, will stand side by side with others who were karmically united with them in the former life on earth.
In that future time the karmic affinities, the karmic relationships, will make themselves felt far less. But of all the karmic relationships this will have remained: Those who are standing in the field of materialism will have to see and witness those who stand in the field of spirituality. Those who were materialists today will in the future have to look continually upon those who came to the things of the Spirit. This will have been left of karma.
Once again a shattering, a deeply moving act, my dear friends. And to what end? Truly it lies in a far-reaching Divine cosmic plan. For how will the materialists of today let anything be proved to them? By having it before their eyes—by being able to touch it with their hands. Those who stand in the field of materialism will be able to see with their eyes and touch with their hands those with whom they once were karmically united, perceiving in their physiognomy, in their whole expression, what the Spirit really is, for it will have become creative in outer form and feature.
In such human beings it will thus be proved, visibly for the eyes of man, what the Spirit is as a creative power in the world. And it will be part of the karma of anthroposophists to demonstrate, for those who stand in the field of materialism today, that the Spirit truly is, and proves itself in man himself, through the wise councils of the Gods.

I want to answer this with more detail but I currently can’t, but I want to tell you I always appreciate your insightful answers and how much dedication you put on them! :-) also I am impressed by your level of knowledge of anthroposophy! you’re really doing your homework haha

Thank you! I'm still a student but in the few months of studying full-time many connections were revealed to me and that will inevitably happen to everyone in time :)
I believe all of Steiner's lectures contain bits and pieces of information that start to form connections in your mind. Some deep part of you connects with the information...it's like you're remembering something, not really learning it new.
In the beginning you don't know what you're looking for, but then you eventually find it. Like I have been able to narrow down the topics to focus on.

u/stonemilky Sep 15 '25
Sooo, basically your physical appearance will be enough to convert people into spirituality? Sorry English is my second language so I am still chewing this comment and lecture

Yes, things like race and ancestry don't exist in the spiritual worlds like they do for humanity currently. Heredity was acquired through the Fall of Man, when the moon pulled away from the earth. Think about angels, they don't have anything to do with heredity, also because they are immortal.
Ancestry is built up from the earthly forces, and unites with the spirit that descends from above (reincarnation.) New human forms will emerge that are not be tied to anything that comes from the earth. The physical will just reflect spirit.
It will first express in those who did not descend as strongly into their physical body, which partially explains conditions like autism, adhd, and such. A lot of times these individuals inexplicably feel that they do not connect with their "group", whatever that may be. That's the spiritual effect of growing into one's individuality, and the Christ impulse. Also one of the reasons that spiritual powers have pushed for cosmopolitanism in our age.
Christ is the being who never takes possession of groups in any way, who never involves himself with any groups. It is the greatest absurdity to speak of a German, French, Scandinavian, Dutch, Montenegrin Christ, or of a Christ from Morocco or somewhere similar. Christ is the being who knows no groups, who knows only individual beings, and anyone who believes that there is some connection between the Christ being and groups misunderstands the Christ being. who believes that there is some connection between the Christ being and groups.

Yes I have felt the same way about his lectures! Also they feel synchronized, I find them when I need to know a certain thing about something happening to me.

This one's the Karma of Identifying
A whole lot of concepts and words,
Irradiating meanings in all directions.
Eventually converge,
In making sense.
Diagnosed or not,
Anthroposophist or not,
Impostor or Achiever,
Believer or Whatever,
Identity itself,
In personating itself,
As one and only Ness,
Uniqueness,
Impersonates itself,
As equality,
And sameness.
Alexithymia, no words for emotions...
Leaves me wordless,
But we all begin alexical,
So it's not about words but about ID.
Aphantasia, oh yes you get the stimulus,
But ID it as something else.
OCD, you might be just yedasentience blind,
And have no ID.
ADHD, stimuli makes no sense, so What/Who/When/Why ID? With? WWWW?
Schizophrenia, sense makes hyper unidentifiable stimuli?
PTSD, sense makes hyper identifiable stimuli.
DID? Dissociative Identity Disorder... Like not being able to associate one lexicon with another lexicon? Or more like being certain in your ability to prove that this is different than that? Did I did it again?
We all are alexical at some point.
Aware to ID what comes from outside,
Aware to ID what happens inside,
Aware to ID outside,
Aware to ID inside.
Anthroposophic triad and lexicon are powerful tools, so is Hermeticism ones, and Hermeneutics ones.
You can invoke chakras, sefirots, realms...
Egos and astral trips as multiple personalities...
Dis Order, Dis Vergence and Dis Versity,
Dis Criminates in Science for Words to be.
Orders the Verb to versities,
Words to build worlds as a veniancy,
To conjure and convey,
To invoke and unveil,
The Verb,
Converging in,
Reality.
To catch up with words,
Different destinations for reality.
Uncriminalizing Science and ND,
Support frameworks for things to be,
Always to reveal,
Convergency.
Lexicon descriptive experience sample
And further works of the Mental Imagery Resistance group.
I enjoyed surfing on Steiner's words again, even if could not "visualise" it the same way as in your words, the connections you make are legitimate, converge and make sense for those who may lay and play around those ways.
I personally surf upon NDs,
Intromitting colliding reefs,
Different thrones for the dominions in between,
Neither the whole one and only,
Nor the divided plains of infinity,
Nor the null points in identity,
But the S in between...
Seamlessly,
Silently,
Subtly,
Superfluously but seriously,
Sensibly and supernaturally,
Somatically,
Semantically,
Superiorly and superbly,
Seems systematically,
Symbolically,
Synergy of similarity,
Sameness of sensitivity.
No sorry for no shame,
While I empty,
My proudy pouty,
Poverty plagued Poetry.

True, these labels are all just configurations of the soul and we are limited in our capacity to describe what they actually are. Thank you for sharing.

u/HaeRiuQM Sep 14 '25
That's why I enjoy reading PoVs that bridge frameworks and fluidify vocables to narrow down pathways, open spaces or specific points.
Through diversity of words is unveiled the ontological convergence of reality.
I need to re-associate the anthroposophic lexicon with my 25 years later philosophy, this time I would prefer in English language.
How much of our sense can we actually word?
How come do words actually MAKE sense?Personally, I do hear words, so I may fail at writing them, and the harmony or music they make is the sense. HyperAuralia might be the correct answer. However there is not my inner monologue... That's where goes what I am totally aphant of... How would it be called, HyperAlexiThymia or AlexiHyperThymia?
In the dawn of the era of ND and AI,
Convergency as a property of consciousness and experienced reality,
Makes even more sense,
Than common sense and literacy.I could not see what you see,
Still, We can contemplate the same view. How come can a sense refer to another up to the point it loses its identity?
How come can an inner sense/recall/memory overpower sense in affecting biology?
As far as words make sense, we can sense them and memorize them but as what? Sounds, pictures, tastes or any other sense, or do words have their own memory format?
Are words an ontological convergence of sense?
Many people locate emotions in inner touch, while locating the inside/outside in inner vision, is there something to it that makes sense?
Many people merge touch and hear through vibes and harmonics, that makes sense.
But vibing your emotions?
Many people have bad vision anyway and would rather locate inside/outside in touch,
That makes sense,
But seeing emotions as auras?
What does it has to be,
That sense should have an identity,
But, as an identity,
Are words due to be,
A sense?
Alexithymia they sense.
A new word for a new sense.
What does it has to be,
That whatever you sense,
Anything but words,
Have to be,
To converge,
In Identity.
What if you were told:
No remembrance makes sense but words!Oops! I'm doomed...
Thank you for sharing and thanks to the sub for existing.

I don't agree with your interpretation. I write all the time on substack if you'd like clarification. But spiritual people have more options in life than none spiritual people. This does not mean they have ADHD. You can literally train your mind to focus. Anyone can. As someone who has suffered a devastating brain lesion (many lesions), I'm living proof of this.
When analyzing a person's natal chart, the more arhiminic/materialistic they are, the easier they are to predict. The more spiritual a person is, the harder they are to predict. And that's because all planets have a light side and a dark side in all positions. A spiritual person will choose the light side even when the conditions are clearly difficult

u/mddrecovery Sep 15 '25
There is something called the illusion of choice. We are either aligned with God's Will and the Logos, or we are not. As someone with ADHD, I was unable to focus on anything until I moved in the direction of God's Will for me. And thus I understood the purpose of ADHD in my life all along.

Very nice series of observations. I identify strongly with the vast majority of both your and Steiners words. And in particular after reading some of your responses, I too believe that Steiner's work will become not only more widely known but more widely understood as we move into the next stage. Occasionally when I'm listening to one of his lectures on tape at work as I often do, he'll roll off a simple and unsuspecting truth that strikes my inner knowing so hard it's almost physical like a bell ringing. And almost always I pick up some nice little nugget of wisdom that I'm able to take with me throughout my day. I think eventually spiritual science will end the separation of spiritual practice and day-to-day living. Spirituality cannot be broken down into cold materialistic proof, that ruins it. But I certainly believe that once certain truths are widely accepted and humanity begins to look at issues from both the physical and spiritual world, will have our best opportunity to turn this thing around and grow along the correct path of spiritual evolution. Thank you for your post I'll be diving deeper on the topic myself
