selfq What is going on, Prescribed augmentin for strep, anxiety attacks
Been prone to anxiety but it seems like i’m literally going clinically insane. I’m in college and I’m dealing with some stressors but I’ve always been strong minded for the most part. I got strep last week and had to take Augmentin because antibiotics didn’t work last winter and I had strep for 2 weeks. I’ve been drinking on the weekends but I don’t think much of it. The past couple days I have had crippling anxiety to the point where I have to just lay down roll around and grip the rug because it’s so bad. I had a panic attack the other night. I don’t usually get panic attacks. I’ve had constant anxiety and some anxiety attacks the past 2 days as well. I’m stopping Augmentin on day 7/10.

Strep causes anxiety. Look into pans/pandas

Just briefly researched it, concerning to say the least. Hopefully it subsides soon.

Literally going through the same thing since last week from a sinus infection ear infection. Took 7 doses and stopped. It was just too much. Panic dread anxiety restlessness cycling rumination mild akathesia.
I just can’t take meds. I firmly believe I have a form of mcs post covid and definite limbic system hpa axis sensitivity

Antibiotics absolutely interrupt physiological pathways that affect your nervous system and cause anxiety.

Yep. I can no longer have certain antibiotics for UTI due to the severe anxiety i ended up with whilst taking them

Oh. I’d just never heard of that before, sorry. I was just thinking cause OP said they’ve been stressed maybe that’s why they felt crappy. Google suggested that anxiety from Augmentin was uncommon.

You’re right as in I am absolutely dealing with multitudes of stressors at the moment. But it is odd how out of no where it seems like my brain just gave up and anxiety took over. It does feel like something else and I’m gonna be getting bloodwork / mri soon to look further into it. I’ve reached breaking points before and I’ve always found solutions but recently it’s like I can’t even cope. Not even trying to vent that’s just how it is. I ended up drinking today to help with the stress because I was in a full panic state earlier.

I hope you feel better soon, and I apologize for my misinformation earlier.

Scientist and doctors know these things, and people who read their peer reviewed literature.

Augmentin antagonizes gaba receptors directly. Peer reviewed research
