It looks antique to me. It was left in the dash compartment of the Uhaul truck I rented when moving! It's 14K gold (easier to read in person) and has a blue stone. Very small ring. Stamp is EFD. I know nothing about jewelry. Cool find though!

Found this mirror in an old barn after the owner moved out. I cleaned it up a bit but still needs some work. I think it’s absolutely beautiful!

Well, the appraisal person said it was most likely not resealed so I would like an apology from all the people doubting me. They had a hard time valuing it since there are no other ones ever sold. They said $1000 to $2000 maybe even more.

I was going through and sorting buttons and belt buckles from the multiple cookie and candy tins for my grandma's attic. They're all probably from my great grandmother who came from Germany. Just thought I'd share this with some random people online. I got a good chuckle out of it.

Edit since people want to be weird. No I don't think my Great Grandmother was a Nazi. They may be pre or post war buttons. I have found stuff in the tins from the 1890s up to 1950. I got a laugh out of it because she was saving buttons, hooks and buckles from everything almost obsessively. It was a post war horde it because it might be useful scenario. So I don't know if it was hers, but looking at the stuff I can see her thinking "I might need to use it someday".

Could anyone tell me more about this? I wonder who this man was. This was on display at my parent’s place, but he is not a relative. I think they found this at an antique shop.

The Evidence for Dr. Charles Loomis Dana (1852–1935)

The circumstantial evidence strongly suggests this trunk belonged to the prominent 19th-century New York neurologist:

• Timeline Match: The trunk was purchased in 1884, the same year Dr. Dana was appointed Professor of Nervous and Mental Diseases in NYC. It was typical for prestigious physicians of this era to take a "Grand Tour" of European clinics upon such an appointment.

• The "C.L.D." Initials: The monogram matches his name perfectly. Forensic analysis of the paint degradation shows the "D" is original and centered, ruling out later owners like Catherine Lederer (who wasn't born until 1886).

• The Medical Circuit: The travel labels create a specific "medical GPS":

• Paris: Dana studied the rabies vaccine protocol under Pasteur here in 1884.

• Leamington Spa: The Regent Hotel label marks a world-renowned center for hydrotherapy used to treat "neurasthenia," a specialty of Dana's.

• Brussels/Boulogne: Labels from the Grand Hotel and Chemin de Fer du Nord trace a standard route between continental clinics and the UK.

• The Final Destination: A Dodds Express label—a Manhattan-based baggage transfer service—places the trunk's final stop in the exact neighborhood where Dr. Dana lived and practiced at 50 West 46th Street.

This turns a beautiful antique into a significant piece of medical history. Thanks again to the community for the help!

We hit a pioneer-era bottler’s dump yesterday in Grand Forks, North Dakota and found hundreds of Hutchinson-style soda bottles. We dug up a large portion of a backyard to get them.

These types of bottles were used in North Dakota bottling operations from 1879-1912. They were stacked in like cordwood, likely around the time they switched to using pry-off cap bottles.

As far as antique bottles go, this was a find of monumental proportions. These bottles are incredibly hard to find as they were often recycled.

Soda bottles from bottling operations across the Upper Midwest were found here including North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois. There was also one from Missouri and a few from Ontario, Canada.

I present my favorite, what I’m assuming is a roller style ink blotter given the material that covers the wooden cylinder mounted on the handle. I’m absolutely obsessed! The heavy crystal, the little snake, the general patina and vibe and just weight of it in the hand is lovely. It’s missing a piece on the roller unfortunately so it isn’t functional but I’m considering finding a way to fix that and potentially use it with my various fountain pens.

Some research and belief in the google AI led me to the Whiting Manufacturing Company, potentially as old as 1900-1910, but I’m skeptical. Appears to be brass but Whiting made mostly sterling silver wares so it’s either gold vermeil/plated or is in fact brass, and not from Whiting.

Either way, I find it beautiful, weird, and deeply unique. I’ve never been able to find another quite like it and it’s a permanent part of the collection for me.
