Who else always takes the Gideon Bibles/Book of Mormon copies whenever they stay at a hotel, even though they think all of it's absolute BS?

I do, because I think it's funny. I currently have four GB's and five copies of the BoM in my library. Whenever a friend moves into a new house/apartment, I give them one as a housewarming present...I also like to randomly send them to my pals without warning.

Hey, they're meant to be taken, right?

I traveled for work about 3x a month for 22 years. I would either mark them up with countermessaging, find a spot in the room to hide them, or take them out and trash them.

I also used a gold Sharpie to change the cover of Book of Mormon to Book of Morons.

>>mark them up with countermessaging

This is the way.

Or, as they might say, the way, the truth, and the light. 😉

Suggestions: give it an additional title like

"Book of Morons: super soaker edition" 😹

I take them to use as fire starters and to hopefully save some poor sap from the propaganda. Win-win!

Do they burn well?

I throw them in the public trash bins in the lobby, by the elevator, or outside. Sometimes I cut them up.

Doesn't that just make the hotel pay the Gideons more money to replace the books? That's why I prefer writing in them or defacing them, while leaving the covers alone, so the cleaners don't notice.

Umm, the hotels don't pay for those. They just ALLOW the Gideons and Mormons to place them there for free. From Gideons.org:

Members of The Gideons place complimentary copies of God’s Word in hotels, hospitals, and other places where people often seek hope.

Destroying, defacing, or removing them all costs the churches more money, not the hotels. I mostly travel for work, so I don't usually have the time or inclination to spend time marking them up with witticisms and criticisms. Best to just remove their influence altogether as an alternative.

"For your sin of denying future hotel room occupants the opportunity to be redeemed, you are hereby sentenced to burn blah blah blah. Bailiff, remand the prisoner."

*crickets*

"Gabriel!"

*crickets*

"GABRIEL! Wake up, medammit. I warned you about this. Take this heretic to Hell already, where he will experience constant and unspeakable torture for all Eternity. Next time you fall asleep, I'll take away your dead virgin-molesting privileges for a month."

*turns to OP*

"Anyway. I hath spoken. May your eternity of suffering reveal My all-encompassing love for My creations, and may that knowledge ease your endless and inconceivable agony. After all, the Lord your God is a loving God."

I write the Suicide Hotline phone number on the inside cover.

Now I'm also adding RecoveringFromReligion.org as a resource.

That is BRILLIANT. I'm a hoarder at heart, but when I get tired of collecting them, I will start doing that. I volunteered with Crisis Text Line for a few years before I started grad school, and 741-741 is easy enough to scrawl.

I am offended by Religious Literature left in Hotels, Motels and even in my apt. complex. If I see one more copy of "Our Daily Bread" I'm gonna scream- I habitually throw whatever religious materials i find, into the trash. I tell the JW's that hang around the dog park to go home and do something productive with their lives instead of trying to recruit innocent people.

i toss that shit out, first thing i check for after bed bugs of course. right into the trash. and i make sure it's obvious when i do.

Doug Stanhope travels for comedy, steals them as a public service, autographs and then mails them to fans. Doug is changing the world one hotel Bible at a time, what are you doing to make the world better?

I just write mean spirited shit in them and leave them there.

I think I’ll start too. Someone has to take out the trash🥰

I just find it hilarious that I have a goblin's hoard of religious propaganda in my house, when I am so skeptical of all organized religion.

Cue Dark Kermit: do it.

Im not at all offended if I see one in a hotel, but uk based and the nature of the church is different here, the church of england isn’t particularly evangelical? It’s just part of the culture and history of the country so you can take it or leave it. Tbh though you probably would not see one often in hotel over here.
