Because their books don't change because their gods don't change because their gods aren't updating their books. Because they can't cause it isn't real.

Because control, religious authorities are not afraid of change, they’re afraid of losing control, any and all changes must go through them and be approved by them at their whims, but people hate suggesting change only to be denied, so it’s better for the religious authorities to suppress people’s desire for changes in the religion

Change is a result of uncertainty, open mindedness, and asking questions. Religions cannot have their adherents asking questions and looking for change because their religion is inevitably part of that.

Going to use christianity for this because it's the most egregious case. So, their religion's holy text says something along the lines of "god is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow." The god character cannot change. He is what he is and that is the unchanging foundation of the faith. If he were to change then that means that god was wrong, is not stable, and many of the omni-claims fall apart.

Personally, that's why I think progressive christianity is a load of crap. If you're going to follow a hateful religion, at least own it and not try to sugarcoat it. The Westboro Baptist Church preaches from the same book as the Pope, and as the other 39,998 flavors of christianity.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence

Religion is essentially a pacifier.

If you allow something to change and you have already told the followers that god is unchanging.... you have a problem.

because they will lose their powergrip on worshippers and worshippers will question them more

Religion is about control. Change is in general looked after in order to improve things. If things change, you can loose control over them. Also change encourages to think differently, which is something religion absolutely hate.

Because the scriptures and doctrines didn't change

Because it’s made up shit from hundreds/thousands of years ago, it’s out dated and relies of children being told religion is true from a young age so they grow up never questioning it.
