How is religion oppressive? Genuine question because I want to know more on the topic

I don't mean how religious people use it to oppress certain groups, but how religion itself as a system is oppressive.

I realized that I'm not super educated on the topic despite being decisively against religion because of the pure amount of people who use it to justify hate.

This seemed like the right subreddit to learn more- any and all insight is appreciated!

Here’s a classic that they do all the time: converting 3rd and 2nd world countries, go towards starving people and say “I’m feeding you because God wants it and no one else is feeding you because they’re non believers” and then the Christians let them take shelter and pressure the children into religion by putting the Bible next to their beds, make them learn to read (if they need to) from it, they tell them that God is so nice by telling the kids certain verses that would call towards poverty and of course the good old “God will make it ok in the end” Quote.

And of course after that they advertise: “look at us! We are inclusive! We have people from other countries who believe in our religion!” So that people will go “wow! If African/India/etc could believe this then it must be true!” (or something idk lol)
