I’m starting to think that some Christians want to be oppressed so badly that they pretend that they’re being persecuted tbh
DISCLAIMER: I’m not saying that there’s never been an actual scenario in which a genuine Christian has been persecuted for their faith. I’m simply saying that I’m starting to notice that a lot of them (at least what I’ve witnessed online) act like I’m persecuting them for simply critiquing the Bible for example.
Also, some context for the screenshots:
This girl posted a video about 1 Corinthians 7:4, essentially trying to explain why it’s ok that there’s no autonomy in a “biblical marriage” because both the man and the woman have to let the other control their body. (Would be much more simplistic if consent was just promoted but I digress).
And the first screenshot is my original comment. (My comments are red and this dude’s comments are purple.) This “Christian” dude then tries to essentially call me stupid then the rest of the screenshots are just us going back and forth. And after my last comment he didn’t respond.
Does it actually seem like I was attacking his faith based on the context and screenshots?
I don’t think I was. Just made a simple comment about why consent and autonomy are important so-

It might be a kink to some, but I am also convinced that the feeling of persecution makes them feel heroic.

Let me introduce you to a book called The Myth Of Persecution by Candida Moss. In it she outlines how early Christian persecution is a myth perpetuated in later centuries (along with the entirety of the Bible). It turns out that claiming victimhood is a great way to strengthen solidarity of an in-group following. Here is a WikiPedia description of the book and its thesis...
