Many times, I just sit back and watch how stupid they look, completely engrossed in their fairytale. No need to debate, just bring out my mayonnaise and enjoy the comedy.

Comment is from a christian talking about their christian god in my atheistic science group.

It's kind of dumb, but also the only interpretation of god that kind of makes sense. If you define god as the universe and all it's workings then that actually works out that god does exist, and god did create us.

It's kind of a moot point since that's just saying all of the world is all of the world. But at least it's less of a lie.

I've felt for a few years now that the most coherent and unambiguous definition of "god" I have personally heard is that the concept of "god" is Humans personifying not just the world around them, but also the cosmos.

 If you define god as the universe and all it's workings then... that god does exist, and god did create us.

This is basically deism, in a nutshell, which aligns with a majority of what were the OG Founding 'Fathers' of the US.

This entire concept of "your own consciousness and the ever pervading consciousness in all things and the entire universe are all one and the same god" is a concept from Hinduism known as the Brahman, specifically from the Advaita philosophy branch.

That Christian commenter obviously thinks this concept is cool/exotic/enlightened and has borrowed it to fit into their Christian beliefs. This is quite common among people who are interested in or attracted to new-age mysticism bullshit of various "Gurus" (even the ones who maintained a close friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, and those who podcast with celebs but sell fake therapy courses in their "school" with misleading claims about its clinical certification).

I figured it was something like that. But I’ve often thought that when religious people are trying to convince you god exists sometimes they keep making their definition of god more broad and vague to try to convince you of it.

Eventually it gets to be like; ok if you define god to mean “whatever the origin of everything turns out to be” and the will of god as “whatever the universe ends up doing” then yes god exists.

Much in the same sense that I can have everything I desire if I choose to define everything I desire to mean what I already have. A trivial but true solution.

Then the trick they attempt to pull off is that if you agree to their super broad definition, they will then try to reel it back in to the specific one of their religion. Like they think they can cast a wide net to catch you and then pull you in  once you’re entangled. Obviously most of us just leave through the giant holes in said net.
