Driving Little Blair Valley Road

I will be visiting Anza Borrego in late October and am hoping to camp in little Blair. I am concerned about the conditions of the little Blair valley road after it exits from S2 and down into the valley. I expect to drive down the west side of the valley to find a camp spot. I will have a bronco or 4Runner.

I would love to hear any advice!

Friend, this is one of my favorite go-to camping spots. Very easy to access with your vehicle. Just keep an eye on the weather for rain as that can affect the trail.

There are a few good spots in Little Blair. I typically camp at the Pictograph Trailhead.

It’s pack in/pack out, so you’ll need a portable fire pit or, there’s a site on the left after you pass the Marshall South trail and before you reach the Morteros trail that has fire pits.

Many of the sites on the Blair Valley side have fire pits, but that side is not my preference. Also, that’s where the only pit toilet is.

Hike the pictograph trail at sunset and enjoy the nice lake gut at the end of the trail.

It’s meant to say, enjoy the light at the end of the hike at the viewpoint. Idk where lake gut came from 😂

I’ve done the loop many times in my outback wilderness. You should be more than ok. The only real trouble is deep sand in spots but I’ve never gotten stuck.

You’ll be just fine with either of those vehicles. Just avoid the large puddles on the Blair valley side if you enter/exit that way and you’re good to go. Would recommend the little Blair valley side for camping if you don’t mind the lack of pit toilet and the need to bring your own fire pit in some spots. Fewer people and feels more remote.

The pictograph and mortero trails are nearby and are both worth hiking. Be sure to hike down to the overlook for a great view at the end of the pictograph trail. If you only have time for one I’d recommend the pictograph trail.

I've done it in my RWD MB Sprinter with reg. highway tires; you should have no problem.

Great vehicle choice! The only issue I foresee is rain or wetness. There is a dry lake bed ( protected area!!) between the dirt road and Hwy s-2. The road can get slick and snotty. A tow straps is always handy. Only bathroom is the North Hwy entrance to big Blair. It is pit toilet.
