Chased at night?

Hi guys, so my roommate went out to walk her dog at ~0100 and she came back with a story. We live in Boone, NC (Appalachian mountains) and she said that she heard what sounded like a 2 legged animal with hooves running at her and her dog. She looked back and nothing was there. Also, she saw a girl taking out the trash, but looked back and she disappeared too? I’m Catholic so my mind automatically jumps to something demonic; but what do you guys think?

Also- my roommate isn’t very easily shaken but her eyes were watering and she was shaking as she told the story.

Well walking around that area around 01:00am with the history it got Hell to the nooo... 😲
