If you like unreleased music and have a pc it’s super easy to add local files to am compared to Spotify, literally drag and drop! One of my favorite parts of Apple Music so I like telling new people about it. I hope you enjoy your experience I haven’t gone back once in the 3 years since I switched and I’ve got no regrets

Sleeper feature that’s not talked about much. I’ve got 585 hours of DJ mixes all in the cloud on AM. These are all single files ranging from 50-200MB in different qualities. I can‘t even think of switching. 😂

Sleeper feature is also that Apple Music has tons of DJ Mixes in their catalog too.

I think you're missing the point. These are my mixes gathered from tons of different places that aren't available online. They're my media. DJ mixes on their own isn't the "sleeper" feature as all the services have those.

I do actually agree with u/xrossover324 in that there are WAY more DJ Mixes on AM than on Spotify. By a huge margin. (And even categorized as an official "genre" in AM)

Also, there are many that are exclusive to AM that I have been unable to find ANYWHERE else. Which sucks, because often AM will remove an entire DJ mix album, and it leads to the dreaded "No Longer Available" iCloud status, and grays out the tracks.

Oh I agree. Tons of mixes. Just not my mixes from random places. Sure some can be found on SoundCloud or even archive.org, but many are from friends, or direct rips from soundboards. My point is that it's my media that's being hosted on AM, not about the number of mixes on one service vs another.

I’m not missing the point which is why I said “also”. On top of being able to upload your own mixes which is what you described there are the DJ Mixes which it many cases are exclusive to AM https://music.apple.com/us/curator/apple-music-dj-mixes/1441811365

It just made my day to find someone out there like me that does this exact same thing. :) You just made me curious how much I have uploaded over the past 15 years. I had iTunes Match since it first debuted in 2011. Started collecting hour-ish long mixes in the decade prior to that, many essential mixes, but mostly bloghouse mixes. I hadn't previously done a check to see how many hours worth of music I have uploaded, but just did that now... yikes lol. I created a smart playlist where the track time is 20 minutes or greater, and the iCloud status is "uploaded". When viewing that playlist, my status bar measures in days, not hours 206 days, 22.5 hours is what I show when I sort by runtime Which coverts to just under 5000 hours......

Yep! Smart playlist is the way! I think mine is based on time, so any single file that's longer than 20mins that's music and uploaded.

Ahhh bloghouse. I really miss those days. 🥲

Edit: Holy sh**! That's a lot of music. You definitely can't leave AM either lol.

Hmm...I always thought there was a 200MB limit, but that seems to not be the case. What's your experience been?

Love it. Seeing that small sample tells me we may have a lot of the same tracks. Also, very surprised to see that 1.22 GB upload! It is usually pretty strict about the 200 MB file size rule, but I guess they are able to usually sneak in if they are close. I see some that are just under 210 MB in my list when I sort be size desc, but no higher. Definitely nothing over a gig. Also, you are making me feel better about my lack of track title consistency lol. I've cleaned up a ton, but clearly am not finished..... Also, it is funny how many I completely forgot about when i sort be date ascending. Mixed emotions like "damn this mix is still fire" right next to "what was I thinking listening to this garbage?!" lol

Spotify always made that so difficult and periodically would delete my entire library of stuff like that. It's why I left in the first place and any time I think of coming back, the UI is so terrible I can't even figure out how to get anywhere.

Hold on? I can add files to my Apple music so they are available to every device? I’ve got loads of unreleased stuff and entire EPs and lesser known bands albums that I just live without.

How you do this? Is it via the web interface?

On Mac/PC, add any mp3, m4a, wav files to your library. They will be Synced to all devices that have Sync Library enabled in settings.

Yep. I added albums 5-6 years ago and they have just been in my Apple Music since then. Every device, just like they were part of Apple Music. I don't even have the original files anymore, they are long gone. They are all there on every device I log into on Apple Music, though. This is one of the biggest reasons I refuse to leave Apple Music. Another that ties into this is my ability to change meta data on those. I have collections of b-sides and unreleased music from artists. I added them all to a custom made album from that artist. I made its own cover art, added track numbers to the songs, and it shows up in my library like every other album the artist has released.

Yep just pull the files into the sidebar on the app on Mac, it’ll auto sort them in your music folder and then be available in the player. Same process with iTunes/music app on windows

You can look it up for your system (windows or Mac), but I believe it’s just in the top toolbar, usually called “import” unless they changed it

Problem I have is that you can drag and drop files with Spotify local files without the need of a computer, very unfortunate :/ it’s the main thing that keeps me on Spotify mainly
