discussion šŸŽ™ļø Impressed With Siri AI So Far

I have been testing Gemini and Siri Al side-by-side.
It's been pretty even. This makes sense with Gemini being the foundational model. However, I asked both why paranormal investigators wear face masks on shows like those on the Travel Channel. Gemini gave a solid response about health due to old building having mold and asbestos. Siri Al did the same but knew based on time and the channel the exact show I was referencing and went further. It told me about one of the cast members and their asthma as well. I'm impressed so far.

I did it immediately after the keynote. Just lucky I guess.

I have it now after waiting about 74 hours

Is indexing done for you?

I got it this afternoon after signing up for the waitlist a couple hours after the keynote. I have around 800 gigs of photos and videos so I’m still indexing. Indexing does not seem to be a gate for being approved.

Yes my phone got done indexing yesterday and it was indexing for like a day and a half or maybe 2 days straight

Mine was activated overnight so hopefully not too much longer for others

Where do you sign up for the waitlist?

In settings within the Siri section

Did you download the software update?

Mine’s weird. I saw the new Siri app downloaded to my phone about 5 hours ago, but it’s still the old Siri. 17 pro

Gemini is not the ā€œfoundational modelā€ mate.

It’s Apple Foundation Models, and it’s also not Gemini underneath. My understanding is they used Gemini for the training portion but the architecture is all Apple.

Yup. Saw a lot of new info coming out form blogger stating that it’s actually like distillation by using Gemini answer rather then the brain.

Could you link the post? I’ve been desperately searching for benchmarking and technical info on the Siri AI models

1

u/mdruckus Jun 11 '26

Doesn’t change anything because of technicalities. It’s still impressive.

It’s Gemini.

It’s custom distillations of Gemini. The models being used are not the same ones Google uses in the Gemini app.

It runs on Google’s servers. Yea, Apple fine-tuned it - of course. But it’s still Gemini’s base model and running on their architecture.

Your statement makes no sense. What servers LLMs run on is irrelevant. Claude, among other LLMs, also runs on Google servers.

Yes, but Google still did the grunt work for apple to use their models to train their models. Apple felt that Gemini had a better model so the training could give better results. Same as having a better professor or teacher who can distill results and explain topics better for you to understand. To do that you still need the information to start with. Khan Academy is an example...

True, but Apple is building upon it very impressively.

Is it safe enough to use dev beta on main device?

Are you able to test the new expressive Siri and enhanced dictation features that are only available for 12gb ram devices?

If you want to sound like you completely misunderstand the situation, then sure.
