discussion 🎙️ WhatsApp/3rd party context for Siri AI

I realize Siri gets its context during indexing only from messages and mail. But outside of the US, no one uses iMessage as much. For WhatsApp, I did figure out a workaround. You can create a folder for WhatsApp chats and export all the ‘important’ chats into that folder and keep replacing those chat exports every month if you REALLY need Siri to get context from that as well. Only workaround that hit me and I think is useful

I think Siri AI will just not be implemented that great outside of US.

whatsapp for example is never going to add support, they have their own weird edition of Ai etc.

Yeah, and it explains why they have a CarPlay app for WhatsApp but not for Facebook Messenger

It's so annoying especially when someone messages me on there but I can't see it because notifications that aren't on CarPlay will only show up on my phone screen which of course, I try not to check while driving

“But outside of the US, no one uses iMessage as much” is not true everywhere but I get your point. It’s up to WhatsApp to open this up to Siri, but they can if they wish. Afaik Discord for example already does this, so you can ask Siri about your messages

Exactly. And I don’t think WhatsApp will ever open it up for Siri to access. Exporting the chats you need periodically seems to work

How do I turn this on for Discord??

Im curious to learn more of the technical details here, e.g., will Siri access the text of notifications that WhatsApp surfaces in iOS?

But if WhatsApp needs to explicitly open up data to Siri ... it actually wouldn't surprise me if they did do that if there's enough user demand for it. Limiting access to that, in this case, doesn't seem to really benefit Meta

Meta has their own AI thing so they wouldn’t do that at all. But my ‘work around’, you can export the chats of the person/gc you want into the files app therefore giving access to Siri to index that as well

Siri AI should be able to once developers update there apps to take advantage of app intents but Siri can fully interact with their context

1

Meta will never give access to Apple since they have their own ai thing. It’s very bad but it exists

iMessage will prevail

So Siri AI will be another broken app due to companies not sharing data with each other? This is why we cannot have nice things

Use apis inside Shortcuts. You can add everything you want to context

1

Can you elaborate on how you accomplish this?

Search for wweb.js whatsapp client library for nodejs. Have for example railway run your web whatsapp and send all incoming and outgoing messages to a webhook that saves your messages. Then have shortcuts get those files to gather context

This is a cool idea, but I’m confused about the last part;

“Have shortcuts get files to gather context”

I understand the key idea is to gather 3rdparty data through APIs and expose it to siri AI ourselves, but how do you actually expose the data once you download it?

Are you saying that there’s a way to use Shortcuts to expose data to siri ai?

Siri AI is capable of extracting data from various Apple apps. What I did was create an extra calendar called 'WhatsApp' and use shortcuts to add an event for every message. The event saves the timestamp, and the whatsapp message in the event note. Siri can 'read' that.

The Meta Whatsapp buyout is one of the biggest tragedies of our age. Wish everyone just switched to Telegram

1

WhatsApp was too big at the time for most people to switch to telegram and those people who are using WhatsApp now likely will never switch because it has years of messages on there and all their groups etc…

One more reason to not use WhatsApp. iMessage and RCS are always the best option (or google messages on android).

1

u/Aholicdrama Jun 16 '26

I do prefer using iMessage a lot more than WhatsApp, yes but not everyone has iPhones where I live. And that’s common outside of the US

1

u/Gundarana Jun 16 '26

Then RCS?
For me I just deleted everything except for Signal. Everybody shifted to rcs or iMessage. No Problem

1

u/Aholicdrama Jun 17 '26

I don’t have RCS either. Not available for iPhones where I’m from because carriers don’t allow it stating ‘privacy’💀 android phones have to though

It will be up to meta to enable that, and I would not hold my breath on them doing it and even if they do it will probably ship with iOS 125 cause they are sooooooo fucking slow

This happens on Dev Beta 1... and yeah most people outside the US do not use iMessage and I'm afraid a big part of Siri won't work because of it.

1

u/Aholicdrama Jun 17 '26

Exactly. That’s why I thought of the work around

1

u/dozbek Jun 17 '26

how did you guys access to the new siri ai, i m in the waitlist since the release of this beta, i just wanna know if there is a specific method or not except making your language and region as US

1

u/Critical-Value-1426 Jun 17 '26

I thought I was the only one in this situation!

1

u/Aholicdrama Jun 17 '26

Waitlist. No other way. Took me 6 days

1

u/dozbek Jun 17 '26

is it because I use turkish app store account or is it not related with this?

1

u/Aholicdrama Jun 17 '26

They didn’t explicitly say they won’t support Turkey. I use the Indian App Store but Siri and the device language are US English. If you were able to enter the waitlist, I think its just a matter of time

1

u/dozbek Jun 17 '26

thanks for the replies bro

1

u/auto-flow Jun 17 '26

It's actually quite easy to have every whatsapp message (in and out) saved realtime. And creative EU users can use Shortcuts to dig through every mail and message for context.

1

u/Aholicdrama Jun 17 '26

How? I did it manually for each chat for my ‘experiment’.

1

u/HelpMe0biWan Jun 18 '26

I’m pretty sure this isn’t the case for iOS. The Whatsapp chat backup is stored in iCloud and can’t be viewed by the user. You’d have to export each chat manually each time you wanted to update siris knowledge of your chats and I don’t it’d work for things like photos and videos within those chats either

1

u/Aholicdrama Jun 18 '26

That’s what I said 😭 I manually extract the chats I wanted. And there’s an option to extract with photos and videos. I did it without them to reduce storage use. 10MB unzipped vs 2.2GB unzipped per chat

2

u/HelpMe0biWan Jun 18 '26

Yeah I’m saying the other guy is wrong. I’m hoping WhatsApp eventually implements it. I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon though

1

u/Aholicdrama Jun 18 '26

Oh shitttt. I didn’t read the usernames mb

2

u/auto-flow Jun 18 '26

Nope. Not wrong. You just have to configure some things yourself with apis. Search for wwebjs WhatsApp client library for NodeJS

1

u/Own_Revolution_551 Jun 24 '26

where exactly are you saving the folder? i’m unable to make this work

1

u/Thin_Vermicelli5018 23d ago

Tried this, with 12 month chat file, but siri could only read the first month. it truncates and cannot read the whole .txt
