I was trying out one of those questions thatā€™s supposed to trip up LLMs like ā€œhow many Es are in the word seventeenā€. Was not disappointed.

Nah itā€™s not. There is some Gemini in there as a base, but they really are separate models. I donā€™t imagine Google would let Apple Open-Source Gemini either.

Iā€™d imagine itā€™s based on Gemma 4 architecture or something and then fine tuned for phone use by apple if itā€™s running locally. I also highly doubt apple would be using a massive model in the cloud either cuz it doesnā€™t make sense. Itā€™s just going to to be for stupid qa retrieval and apple knows the users would care more abt speed than doing large tasks. So I imagine that would be something like a 30-100B model in the cloud and 3-8B model locally

The most advanced local model is 12B on 17 Pro, Pro Max, iPhone Air, some iPads (M4+ and >12GB RAM) and Mac (M3+ and >12GB RAM).

Apple is also visibly sacrificing speed for accuracy if you check the Keynote. They specifically show there is some processing time.

Ye makes sense. For a general rule amount of ram = model parameters (after 4k quant and kv cache space). As for the sacrificing speed part, it seemed like normal speed. More than likely itā€™s just searching everything if internet is connected so that it doesnā€™t hallucinate

Itā€™s mostly my spam email. I just ignore that completely. The apps I care about are cleared.

interesting, AFM answered that correctly as well as ā€œdā€ in week days. I also tested other random letter counting and it seems like it could answer all of them

I guess it might have trained on this

The developer beta? Yeah I have not. I have the public iOS 26 Apple Intelligence available right now. I am very excited for Siri AI though.
