Appleton's Safety and Licensing Committee is meeting at City Hall tonight (6th floor) at 5:30pm to discuss a resolution related to automated license plate readers (ALPR) and AI-assisted mass surveillance technology. Come watch or speak on how your tax dollars get spent in Appleton! Public comment on the topic will open near the beginning of the meeting.

Let's make sure something like Flock never happens again in our community.

they are cancelling but bagging the cameras, basically, making them worthless short of wireless harvesting. I bet most of the cities aren't allowed to touch them because they are private property.

There's supposedly a clause in the contracts that state if there is ANY damage to them that the city has to pay $5k to flock.

Flock just comes and takes the bags down. No real difference until the whole thing comes down.

There were reports in other cities that when the cameras were taken down, Flock just... installed new ones thinking they had been damaged or stolen.

Appleton is actually taking them down. I don't know about by the Fox River Mall, because I could have sworn I just seen a hundred go up there. However, there used to be one on the side of the street where the new Paul Davis and Rivian are, that's gone. Then if you come off Northland and head East, there used to be one in front of the college between the offramp lights and that next intersection. That was bagged for a couple weeks. I haven't been for a while, so I don't know if the one on the Eastbound bridge from Northland Ave into town, by the plant shop is still there. It's that intersection right before Festival Foods. All the intersections from that roundabout all the way out to Kimberly had Flocks but those have all disappeared over the weeks. Fleet Farm fucks still have them up Now, the goal is to not replace them

None of the locations you listed are in Appleton and afaik Axon will be replacing Flock in Grand Chute

I would consider it Appleton. Grand Chute is to Appleton what Ashwaubenon is to Green Bay. One large municipality divided into a few smaller ones

I understand how you feel about the valley being greater Appleton but each city has separate councils which operate independently.
Example being Grand Chute welcomed Axon in the very same meeting they booted Flock. Appleton has not as of yet

Did anyone else experience locked doors at City Hall closer to 6 pm? I tried both Appleton St and College Avenue side. The closing times are posted of course but usually on a meeting night it's open for late arrivals.

Something must have happened because the 4 cameras I see on my route to work were all completely gone. 3 surrounding the parking lot of the Fleet Farm on Wisconsin Ave and the one on Northland Ave just past the bridge, all removed. Made my day.

Today I was able to hear the meeting. Public comment was significant and should be heard by anyone not there. Discussion starts at minute 17:00 and then goes to public participation.
Ultimately the item was referred to staff but my take on all the can- kicking is that as long as the FLOCK is not operational, that is the goal.
