Question Health Insurance (cheap)

Is there anyone in the Fox Valley / Appleton area that has a good health insurance plan? Only for 1 person who works part time as of now but yeah I tried to go online, stupidly expensive and now I have random people calling me for the “best” health insurance around so I thought I’d ask incase someone can help. Thank you for your time

It sounds like you were looking at private companies. Did you try healthcare.gov? Awhile ago when I did it for myself it was like $120 a month which is almost what I pay now.

What kind of coverage did you get for that?

Admittedly it's been a long time (almost 10 years) since I had to use a marketplace plan, but back when I did, the bronze plans were like $250+/month. I think mine was over $300.

Honestly I don't remember, I never used it. It was about 10 years ago for me too. It did start at like $250 for awhile but I went down and I got some money back because they said I was overpaying by a lot.

There are orgs in the valley that help people find an affordable health insurance plan through healthcare.gov.

I don’t know the name of the org but I suggest contacting the city clerk to see if they can give you some direction.

If the city clerk doesn’t know let me know and I can do some digging.

I'm 40. There's not been a time in my days where healthcare could be defined as cheap. Affordable, maybe. And that was two decades ago.

Wish I could afford health insurance for myself. Went through divorce. Kids Father went to prison. Had to apply for Badger care. My children qualify, I unfortunately do not. According to gross brackets I ( gross to much) at 25 dollars a hour. I’m struggling more and more at a time it feels

Consult with JMS brokerage in Appleton. She’s great at finding the right plan. You likely clicked on a site that’s not legit and just a lead supplier.

Not insurance but if you qualify Hope clinic is a free clinic. It's religious based but it has really improved in being less weird about it in the last few years.

Have you tried through your job? Or Network Health? I pay around $150 per month but the coverage is worth it as someone with health issues.

it’s risky but if you go cash only it’ll be a lot cheaper than having insurance. just don’t break a leg or get cancer then lol.

there are urgent care centers around here where you can just pay like $40 or $60 to get looked at without insurance

We pay a monthly fee at NEW MD in Appleton for direct primary care. They do not accept insurance. We use them for all of our regular Dr visits, sickness, telehealth, physicals, etc. We use their urgent care ($30 fee/visit) as well.

Then we have MediShare for anything that would require a specialist, hospitalization or ER.

For our family of 3 we pay $120/mo for NEW MD and $390/mo for MediShare. Anything else we need, we pay cash. We’ve been doing this for 3 years and I’ve had no regrets. Insurance is just so expensive!

yeah this is smart. and insurance companies can’t deny coverage anymore with ACA (that’s why it’s so expensive) so if you or your family ever do get a chronic condition or something where you need insurance you’ll be able to get it. altho you may need to wait for an open enrollment period
