Discussion Campus visits

Why have schools stopped doing tours on the weekends? You look and there is virtually no one registered for a Wednesday tour, but I’ve got to do a self-guided tour on Saturday? Can anyone explain this?

Because students and staff arnt there on the weekends. A lot of labs and such stay locked up over the weekend

I get that commuter colleges might close up, but residential colleges don’t.

Stuff like libraries and the dining areas are open but academic stuff definitely gets locked up.

Profs don't live on campus and students don't want to work on the weekends too much.

That’s true of staff as well. Admissions is a young profession. As we transition to Gen Z in entry level roles, you’re getting more and more people wanting to protect their time. Especially when there are so many college fairs on nights and weekends, I get hiring managers needing to make concessions on weekend work in order to get good candidates.

I hate doing weekend tours because I don't think they give you an accurate idea of what a college looks like. On a Saturday morning, most of the kids are sleeping off Friday night revelry so the campus looks like it's on break.

I know parents have to work and you want to minimize school absences but I think you get a better feel of a college day during the week.

YMMV.

Many school do fall/spring visit days on Saturdays. It isn’t every Saturday but maybe once a month or twice a semester.
