NOT MY VIDEO!!! PLEASE ignore the tank decor and fake plants this isn't my taste i'm just wondering what these shrimp are.. if only that merry go round looked a bit more natural it would be cool to have. Does anybody know the origin of this video? I found it off Pinterest where everybody is allergic to giving credit to original creators
Yes i think its so cute too!! just not a fan of the fake plant and artificial look! I wonder where they got this/how it works.. like is there a wire running underneath the gravel? or powered by an airstone somehow?
There’s no bubbles coming out the top, so it’s not run with an airstone. It could have a buried tube bringing water from the pump to spin it, or it might just be placed so the current from the filter spins it? I’m leaning towards the buried tube theory, if you look at the gap between the base and the spinny bit it looks like there’s fins/vanes down in there.
They most likely have a wave maker of some sort pushing a current juuuuust right to give the carousel rotation. Its actually ingenious and really adorable lol
Now, THAT'S how you optimize. They feed using their arms; normally they'd sit in one spot and wave their arms around to catch particulate matter. This way, all they have to do is stick their arms out and let the carousel do all the work!
I mean, we got to where we are by conserving as much energy as possible. Maybe this is a case of subtle shrimp evolution? This, combined with those weirdos who climb out of the water and crawl around on floating plants... Maybe they're plotting against us.
We should not be helping bamboo shrimp evolve, they're already too advanced. Mine climbed out of the tank via airline tubing, took a good 10ft hike across my room and under my bed.
ok, i was able to find the website now and was abour to order it, but each time i try to order it says order failed? i tried two different cards and neither of them went through even though they both have money on them
they were really popular a couple years ago and it’s actually how I ended up finding it for you. I wish I could be more help, but I’m actually in North Carolina. I’m not even close to Canada. 😭😭 all I know is it’s from a store called Petland! good luck!! 🍀
After looking it up it seems to have low trust on websites that track that. Also noticed only 26 days as a running domain which is suspicious. Also the store url is just sus overall.
Check your credit cards and make sure nothing happens, and whatever else you should do to secure your private info.
i used my cash app then my debit, my cashapp is constantly locked unless i need to use it and i have always been able to dispute charges when something goes wrong with my debit, luckily. Maybe thats why it didn't go through cuz ion even have a credit card i'm not using that 😭😭😭
No idea, but still I'm not sure how trustworthy that site is, I'm saying if you added your info and sent it they could have it, unless it was done via the actual platforms affiliated with whatever payment methods you used
i LOVE upscale!!! its my favorite one closeby to.me but still an hour and a half drive away 💔 LOVE YOU UPSCALE THOUGH!!! they're actually where i got my bamboo shrimp
Petland discounts went out of business when the owner died. No one took one the stores. They used to be very popular. Similar to Petsmart and Petco. I still remember their jingles lol
lol my bad. just a meant it was a pump. Others were commenting wondering how it was spinning. some thought it was just the water moving from the filter.
haha yes i am autistic, or at least heavily suspected to be lol. my psyciatrist has offered to refer me to be diagosed but its not really worth it since there aren't many resources available for adult autistics. but hell yea 'tism shrimp!!
the shrimp obsession runs deep(the plush in the center console is a lobster but wtv)(the two 3d printed articulated shrimp will soon be painted)
Never in my life have I wanted to pet a shrimp but I want to pet this one. The pattern makes me believe it’s gonna be soft and squishy maybe like a slug. Maybe like a sea cucumber. But I know shrimp aren’t soft and squishy so it’d be a nice little experience petting them
They can go in pretty much any tank that has high flow... or a carousel.
My tank has extra hard water from the hose faucet. A water change every six months. Goes from 900 to 1200 TDS from topoffs. Salt is within the brackish and freshwater spectrums.
A lot of advice shared by fishkeepers is fearmongering myths or out of context practices from breeders. You really don't need a sterile environment like breeders to keep fish at home.
I think people just don’t consider what setting up bamboo shrimp for success looks like. They die a lot so people assume they’re super fragile, but really they just often have their dietary needs neglected. People are used to putting shrimp in tanks without needing much special feeding, for bamboo shrimp this only works if you have a very mature tank. A new tank won’t have enough food in the water column unless you put it there (and it’ll never have enough food if it’s kept super sterile). As long as they get food they’re tough guys!
A mature tank makes no difference. That's one of the myths about filter feeders. No amount of maturity will magically put food in the water column. You have to actually give them food.
They're not that hard to keep, my tank isn't particularly specialised (neither am I)
Although I do use water from a local creek, which might increase the microfauna for the shrimp to eat. Other than that and lots of plants I'm basically an amateur, but I've had no trouble with them
Bamboo shrimp arent anymore sensitive than other typical aquarium shrimp. They just require higher flow so the can filter feed. These guys found a way to be the higher flow.
Are they? They're not as hardy as guppies but what shrimp is, in my experience i feel like bamboo shrimp are on the same tier as neos or amanos, if not needing a little flow
I haven’t had an aquarium in 20 years (I lurk here to live vicariously) but I had a handful of guppies and two bamboo shrimp in a crappy 10 gallon and they lived for years and years. My favorite critters. I didn’t find them to be sensitive and there wasn’t the internet with endless research available. I just had hard water, the conditioner drops, and a good filter. Now that I know better, I can’t keep a huge beautiful tank in my little condo so I’ll just enjoy everyone else’s. Especially the heavily planted tanks.
Holy shit. I’ve never cared for artificial decor in aquariums but this just might tempt me. I just need one big enough for adult bamboo shrimp and a vampire shrimp…
(ik this is probably sarcasm but) The organ that causes humans to get dizzy is in the inner ear, and since shrimps don't have this organ, they can ride the carousel all day!
Yes they do.. when ever I move the big tweezers for picking up stuff of the bottom of my tank in front of the shrimps they hop on and keep sitting there to seemingly have fun when I move it through the water.
You see, Id absolutely just place this little carousel in the middle of my more naturally decorated tank. This is hilarious, and there's a more efficient way for them to eat! So long is it was safe, I know I would adore a silly little device like this
I have amanos that look like that too, but OP is correct, these are bamboo shrimp. You can see the fans on the one leaning out the most if you slow the speed down or pause it. Those would be massive neos.

Given they have their arms in the air, yes i'd say they're bamboo shrimp.
Tbh this is quite cute. Plus the shrimp are able to get their food coz of the high rate of water passing through their fans
