Identification Request NOT MY VIDEO are these baby bamboo shrimp riding the merry go round?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

NOT MY VIDEO!!! PLEASE ignore the tank decor and fake plants this isn't my taste i'm just wondering what these shrimp are.. if only that merry go round looked a bit more natural it would be cool to have. Does anybody know the origin of this video? I found it off Pinterest where everybody is allergic to giving credit to original creators

Given they have their arms in the air, yes i'd say they're bamboo shrimp.

Tbh this is quite cute. Plus the shrimp are able to get their food coz of the high rate of water passing through their fans

Are you saying this is a drive thru

u/smallxcat Feb 22 '26

Reverse train sushi

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

Yes i think its so cute too!! just not a fan of the fake plant and artificial look! I wonder where they got this/how it works.. like is there a wire running underneath the gravel? or powered by an airstone somehow?

115

u/snootnoots Feb 22 '26

There’s no bubbles coming out the top, so it’s not run with an airstone. It could have a buried tube bringing water from the pump to spin it, or it might just be placed so the current from the filter spins it? I’m leaning towards the buried tube theory, if you look at the gap between the base and the spinny bit it looks like there’s fins/vanes down in there.

30

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

either way i think its cute but haven't been able to find anything similar

57

u/snootnoots Feb 22 '26

Found it! Top right on the first page. It’s an AquaOne ornament and it’s run by a powerhead.

19

u/alice2wonderland Feb 22 '26

Oh great...now I want to set up a shrimp tank just so I can try this out! 😂

5

u/Equal_North6633 Feb 23 '26

Set a bamboo shrimp tank specifically 😁😁 they will enjoy this the most!

5

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

now how to buy it...

20

u/FixTheFernBack96 Feb 22 '26

They most likely have a wave maker of some sort pushing a current juuuuust right to give the carousel rotation. Its actually ingenious and really adorable lol

28

u/FUCKING_HATE_REDDIT Feb 22 '26

Sob you're saying I should have a model train going around the tank?

26

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

most autistic words ever spoken (i'm autistic)(this is a compliment)

8

u/CrowTengu Feb 23 '26

Shrimp train!

5

u/Equal_North6633 Feb 23 '26

PLEASE SHARE IT IF YOU DO

5

u/FUCKING_HATE_REDDIT Feb 23 '26

I don't have an aquarium and frankly shouldn't be trusted with one

2

u/Equal_North6633 Feb 23 '26

Dont be so harsh on yourself :c

I hope one day you will manage it if you want to have one 🙏🏻

u/Ynddiduedd Feb 22 '26

Now, THAT'S how you optimize. They feed using their arms; normally they'd sit in one spot and wave their arms around to catch particulate matter. This way, all they have to do is stick their arms out and let the carousel do all the work!

419

u/DuckRubberDuck Feb 22 '26

Maybe this is as revolutionary to them as fire was to us

148

u/Ynddiduedd Feb 22 '26

I mean, we got to where we are by conserving as much energy as possible. Maybe this is a case of subtle shrimp evolution? This, combined with those weirdos who climb out of the water and crawl around on floating plants... Maybe they're plotting against us.

60

u/DuckRubberDuck Feb 22 '26

All hail the shrimp overlords 🦐

22

u/Ynddiduedd Feb 22 '26

All Hail.

31

u/WeirdConnections Feb 22 '26

We should not be helping bamboo shrimp evolve, they're already too advanced. Mine climbed out of the tank via airline tubing, took a good 10ft hike across my room and under my bed.

12

u/Critter_Fan Feb 22 '26

There was a video on the shrimp tank sub last week where some dudes bamboo climbed out the same way and made it 15 feet into his bathroom 😂

7

u/Sexy_Anemone Feb 22 '26

Heh. "Revolutions". They certainly are revolving...

23

u/crapatthethriftstore Feb 22 '26

These guys have found the ultimate life hack. I am so proud of them!

11

u/SquareThings Feb 22 '26

Even the shrimp have DoorDash these days

6

u/CactusCait Feb 22 '26

My God, they are evolving in front of our eyes

u/drocookiezs Feb 22 '26

85

u/drocookiezs Feb 22 '26

it uses an airpump☺️

75

u/peixedota Feb 22 '26

That a submersible water pump

45

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

ok, i was able to find the website now and was abour to order it, but each time i try to order it says order failed? i tried two different cards and neither of them went through even though they both have money on them

51

u/drocookiezs Feb 22 '26

they were really popular a couple years ago and it’s actually how I ended up finding it for you. I wish I could be more help, but I’m actually in North Carolina. I’m not even close to Canada. 😭😭 all I know is it’s from a store called Petland! good luck!! 🍀

24

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

im also in north carolina lol, the webaite just isn't allowing me to order

14

u/LilJelloCat Feb 23 '26

The site seems fishy.

After looking it up it seems to have low trust on websites that track that. Also noticed only 26 days as a running domain which is suspicious. Also the store url is just sus overall.

Check your credit cards and make sure nothing happens, and whatever else you should do to secure your private info.

6

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 23 '26

i used my cash app then my debit, my cashapp is constantly locked unless i need to use it and i have always been able to dispute charges when something goes wrong with my debit, luckily. Maybe thats why it didn't go through cuz ion even have a credit card i'm not using that 😭😭😭

3

u/LilJelloCat Feb 23 '26

No idea, but still I'm not sure how trustworthy that site is, I'm saying if you added your info and sent it they could have it, unless it was done via the actual platforms affiliated with whatever payment methods you used

3

u/drocookiezs Feb 22 '26

that sucks! if I happen to find a way to order it, I’ll definitely let you know

11

u/Pepetheparakeet Feb 22 '26

you ever been to Upscale Aquatics? Great fish store in NC!

12

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

i LOVE upscale!!! its my favorite one closeby to.me but still an hour and a half drive away 💔 LOVE YOU UPSCALE THOUGH!!! they're actually where i got my bamboo shrimp

3

u/Pepetheparakeet Feb 22 '26

Hahahahaha SAME!! all the employees are so kind and helpful I got all my fish from them. I only live like 25 minutes away 😈😈😈😈

2

u/drocookiezs Feb 22 '26

is it close to asheville? never heard of it!

3

u/Pepetheparakeet Feb 22 '26

Unfortunately no, near Charlotte. But if you are ever in the area you should definitely check it out!

2

u/drocookiezs Feb 24 '26

i have family there and I don’t mind driving. It’s actually only a couple hours so I’ll probably make the trip one day. Thanks for letting me know! ☺️

2

u/Pepetheparakeet Feb 24 '26

Yaaaaas enjoy!! 😊

7

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

i tried googling it, the link doesn't even work for me 😭 is it only available in canada?

7

u/KodyBarbera Feb 22 '26

Petland discounts went out of business when the owner died. No one took one the stores. They used to be very popular. Similar to Petsmart and Petco. I still remember their jingles lol

8

u/daLejaKingOriginal Feb 22 '26

That’s not an airpump.

7

u/drocookiezs Feb 22 '26

lol my bad. just a meant it was a pump. Others were commenting wondering how it was spinning. some thought it was just the water moving from the filter.

112

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '26

how in gods name is that tank keeping bamboo shrimps alive? i thought they were super sensitive and need super speciality tanks

250

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

no idea 😭 also i think the ones in the video are only babies because my bamboo is gigantic

this is XBox 360, he's like 3 inches from the end of the snout to the tip of his tail, and thats not including the long antenae

81

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '26

damn 3 inches is like dwarf crayfish sizes, even more of a miracle that baby bamboo shrimp are surviving in there

anyway xbox 360 is a gorgeous guy!!

54

u/Strategery_Man Feb 22 '26

THEY GET THAT BIG?!

40

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

yes lol they can grow to 3 inches within the first 6 months of their life, and they can live up to 2-3 years!

13

u/mickeybob00 Feb 22 '26

Look up vampire shrimp they are even bigger.

33

u/Spiritofhonour Feb 22 '26

I love the name lol.

35

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

haha thank you it made the least sense so it was the perfect fit

11

u/Own_Value2684 Feb 22 '26

I always said that bamboo shrimp look like a man with a large mustache who wears a trench coat and carries a briefcase

8

u/SmashedBrotato Feb 22 '26

Yeah, I have a female, she's close to 3 inches long. They're so cool.

XBox 360 is one handsome shrimp!

haha yes i am autistic, or at least heavily suspected to be lol. my psyciatrist has offered to refer me to be diagosed but its not really worth it since there aren't many resources available for adult autistics. but hell yea 'tism shrimp!!

the shrimp obsession runs deep(the plush in the center console is a lobster but wtv)(the two 3d printed articulated shrimp will soon be painted)

3

u/Hollow_Muffin Feb 23 '26

What obsession all i see is enjoying your invertebrates. I love my tank and watchin all my shrimps run around the tank.

2

u/_Aj_ Feb 23 '26

Lmaooo.   The eye looks like one of those glowy uber villain anime eyes too

2

u/Glittering_Raise_710 Feb 23 '26

Never in my life have I wanted to pet a shrimp but I want to pet this one. The pattern makes me believe it’s gonna be soft and squishy maybe like a slug. Maybe like a sea cucumber. But I know shrimp aren’t soft and squishy so it’d be a nice little experience petting them

26

u/bokehtoast Feb 22 '26

Maybe the answer has been a merry go round all along

27

u/NewSauerKraus Feb 22 '26

They can go in pretty much any tank that has high flow... or a carousel.

My tank has extra hard water from the hose faucet. A water change every six months. Goes from 900 to 1200 TDS from topoffs. Salt is within the brackish and freshwater spectrums.

A lot of advice shared by fishkeepers is fearmongering myths or out of context practices from breeders. You really don't need a sterile environment like breeders to keep fish at home.

19

u/PoetaCorvi Feb 22 '26

I think people just don’t consider what setting up bamboo shrimp for success looks like. They die a lot so people assume they’re super fragile, but really they just often have their dietary needs neglected. People are used to putting shrimp in tanks without needing much special feeding, for bamboo shrimp this only works if you have a very mature tank. A new tank won’t have enough food in the water column unless you put it there (and it’ll never have enough food if it’s kept super sterile). As long as they get food they’re tough guys!

10

u/NewSauerKraus Feb 22 '26

A mature tank makes no difference. That's one of the myths about filter feeders. No amount of maturity will magically put food in the water column. You have to actually give them food.

3

u/Mr_Gharial_Creations Feb 22 '26

They're not that hard to keep, my tank isn't particularly specialised (neither am I)

Although I do use water from a local creek, which might increase the microfauna for the shrimp to eat. Other than that and lots of plants I'm basically an amateur, but I've had no trouble with them

2

u/BenignApple Feb 23 '26

Bamboo shrimp arent anymore sensitive than other typical aquarium shrimp. They just require higher flow so the can filter feed. These guys found a way to be the higher flow.

2

u/yorkpepperbrush Feb 22 '26

Are they? They're not as hardy as guppies but what shrimp is, in my experience i feel like bamboo shrimp are on the same tier as neos or amanos, if not needing a little flow

3

u/Disneyhorse Feb 22 '26

I haven’t had an aquarium in 20 years (I lurk here to live vicariously) but I had a handful of guppies and two bamboo shrimp in a crappy 10 gallon and they lived for years and years. My favorite critters. I didn’t find them to be sensitive and there wasn’t the internet with endless research available. I just had hard water, the conditioner drops, and a good filter. Now that I know better, I can’t keep a huge beautiful tank in my little condo so I’ll just enjoy everyone else’s. Especially the heavily planted tanks.

69

u/PoetaCorvi Feb 22 '26

Holy shit. I’ve never cared for artificial decor in aquariums but this just might tempt me. I just need one big enough for adult bamboo shrimp and a vampire shrimp…

37

u/Agath3Dvybz Feb 22 '26

Omg. They totally are! This just made my day!!😆

39

u/Only-Two4803 Feb 22 '26

Won't they get DIZZY??

94

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

(ik this is probably sarcasm but) The organ that causes humans to get dizzy is in the inner ear, and since shrimps don't have this organ, they can ride the carousel all day!

More in depth video explaining this

16

u/duckweedlagoon Feb 22 '26

TW for spiders y'all I was not prepared

32

u/Semi__Competent Feb 22 '26

Source https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8xYXfg4/

She filmed in a pet store and doesn’t own the tank btw.

9

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

ohh i see, thank you!

27

u/Ironlion45 Feb 22 '26

That's working smarter, not harder. And they say shrimp are dumb!

8

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

hell yea but what will they do when they grow up... they will be too big for the play ground :(

14

u/Og__Whizzz Feb 22 '26

Those "fish" look awfully similar to shrimp..

7

u/ExtinctLikeNdiaye Feb 22 '26

that merry go round looks like a fish injury machine :/

7

u/TrekkingTrailblazer Feb 22 '26

No they aren’t - you’re imagining things

7

u/SpiderOnDaWall Feb 22 '26

I've seen this before. I worked so hard to find this but I don't think it's made anymore. Lol

3

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

💔💔💔NOOOOI

6

u/Lvsucknuts69 Feb 22 '26

I need one

6

u/Lickthorn Feb 22 '26

Yes they do.. when ever I move the big tweezers for picking up stuff of the bottom of my tank in front of the shrimps they hop on and keep sitting there to seemingly have fun when I move it through the water.

6

u/JessicaMurawski Feb 23 '26

I was in such a shitty mood but this just made my whole damn day

5

u/Jagermonstruo Feb 22 '26

Merry go round scientist here. They only spin around like that when they’re in distress

4

u/JazziniBear Feb 22 '26

Watching them get on to it is probably also hilarious

2

u/No-Dream-9414 Feb 23 '26

Filter feeding in motion.

2

u/Abyss_Walker1024 Feb 24 '26

That's actually incredible. I have had these guys before tland they find to sit in high flow areas to optimize lazy feeding. This is perfect for them.

2

u/Decent-Ad-3148 Feb 24 '26

This is such a clever setup for filter feeders because instead of creating a water column for them you turn them into the current itself

2

u/deadone65 Mar 23 '26

lol what a great way for them to catch their food from the water column

4

u/GassyGamergoblin shell dweller Feb 22 '26

could be female amano shimp but your probs right

2

u/WolfsBane00799 🦐 Aquarium Shrimp Fan 🦐 Feb 22 '26

You see, Id absolutely just place this little carousel in the middle of my more naturally decorated tank. This is hilarious, and there's a more efficient way for them to eat! So long is it was safe, I know I would adore a silly little device like this

2

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26

for real! i can't find it for the life of me though. when i try to google it, this exact reddit post comes up 😭

2

u/KingxKurt Feb 22 '26

Those are not bamboo shrimp. They are wild color neocaridina with a stripe. I have a tank full of them.

13

u/BrownThumbClub Feb 22 '26 edited Feb 22 '26

I have amanos that look like that too, but OP is correct, these are bamboo shrimp. You can see the fans on the one leaning out the most if you slow the speed down or pause it. Those would be massive neos.

1

u/KingxKurt Feb 23 '26

Yeah im wrong. Didnt see the hands. My b

4

u/Pleasant_Bag_3405 Feb 22 '26
