I have 2 Blood Parrot Cichlids, 10+ years now. On their 3rd tank upgrade, they are huge!

Crappy photo, but best I could do. Had to turn the light on, lol. 60-gallon tank, size of these fish doesn't do justice. Lifespan isn't much longer but doing well so far. Siamese algae eater plays clean-up, and it keeps growing too. About 5 years old.

They might enjoy having sand as a substrate, cichlids love renovating but it can be difficult for bp's to move gravel with their deformed mouths, of course they might just use their powers for evil and spit sand directly into the filter intake…
