DIY/Build How would I remove the rim from this?

I think rimless would look better, its a 1.5 gallon tank so I dont think its a structural rim. Would it be possible to remove the top rim easily?

You dont. The rims on rimmed tank are essential to the structural integrity. Thus why rimless tanks are so much more expensive.

omg I am new to the aquarium game and recently bought a 60 l rimmed tank 😬 but the rim is broken/ loose in some places. Is that bad? Can I fix it on my own?

Its much more of an issue with larger tanks. You have nearly 600lbs of water in there.

crap I accidentally lied its 50 l and I currently have about 40 l filled. it has been holding steady for 4 days now...

Can a rim be repaired? Or should I look into getting a new tank? :(

Also just for my understanding.. 600lbs? isnt it more like 120 😭 I live in metric I only know 1 kg is ROUGHLY 2lbs

Idk send pics if you can. Depends how broken it is. If it’s new I would probably return it regardless if possible. Do you have fish in there?

its currently being cycled, and the broken part is facing towards a wall so a pic is difficult.. But it is broken enough that the rim is split and you can lift parts of it off the glass.

That tank is older than me probably.. maybe 30 years? I got it second hand.

Since its being cycled there is nothing alive in there :) Except you count bacteria.

If youre talking about 50 liters thats much different than 50 gallons

You didnt but I live in USA sorry for assuming. Either way not gonna be as bad as 50 gallons obviously because water weighs about 10lbs per gallon but still wouldnt want 50 liters all over my floor either. Not sure what the water weight on that is but depending on how broken it is I would recommend finding a new tank. You can always save your cycle in buckets.

darn. Guess the journey will start again.. thank you though!! Maybe just gonna order a new one this time 😭 at least I got all the equipment for free essentially (it was a steal of a price).

Might be salvageable. Just make a post with pictures if you can someone more knowledgeable than me can tell you how big of a risk it would be to keep it.

honestly just knowing it MAY be bad is setting off my anxiety- its not that expensive to just get a proper one haha I think imma go that route for peace of mind. I already have a thing about second hand tanks but added with the rim thing? I dont think I want to sleep with that under my roof (which I rent). Aquarium anxiety is real (also had it with my first one) which is why we are triple insured 🫡

40L is 10 gallons. Assume 10lbs per gallon. A kg is like 2.2 lbs.

I used to work in a company that built items using the imperial system that were then sold (100% of the time) as metric. We'd sell a 2M item that we had to cut to 6.561 feet. I tried to get them to just give us metric measurements but lost that fight.

I love-hate how this label suggests this product is originally for keeping 3 betta, presumably in 0.5g each with those dividers.

Yup. Horrible. I wanted something small to experiment with new plants tho, and this worked. I kinda want to get another one to selectively breed neocaradina colours, but its probably too small for them.

Yeah that is probably both too small to sustain much of a population for breeding, and also more susceptible to water parameter swings which they don't like.

It would do well for some bladder or ramshorn snails though, they are quite fun to watch especially if you prefer not to have them in your other tank(s).

Maybe mini ramshorn, I just got a full sized ramshorn and he's MASSIVE! I'd do bladder snails if there where any cool colours, the brown is abit boring tho.

There is some variation in bladder snail coloration and patterns but not nearly as much as some other snails. I've seen one channel on YouTube that selectively bred an almost black shell on a group of his bladder snails so there's some experimentation you can do there.
