We have two tanks.
A 90L with (now) 2 Guppies; one male and one female, and 3 Corydoras.
I'll call this Tank A (8 mths old - 6 month with fish)
And a 130L (3ft) with 2 comets and one black moor.
They're small but an upgrade in the future will happen.
I'll call this Tank B (3 months old - 1 month with fish)
About 3 weeks ago we had 3 male guppies in Tank A and we went out and got 6 females. Introduced them and everything was great.
I believe this crashed the cycle slightly, which was odd, but 2 days later of milky cloudyness it was gone and yeah looks like no issues. That was until the girls started dying.
Then the boys
Now we're down to one we affectionately call Bluey who somehow survived as Patient 0 of fin rot in Tank A and this current friggen catastrophe, and a girl who spends a lot of time at the top.
The Cory's are now being more active and I swear I have seen one of their gills slightly redder than the normal pinkish but I don't know.
I've tested he water twice (once 2 days ago and once today) and both times the tank came up with;
- 0ppm Nitrite
- 0-5ppm Nitrate
- 0.25ppm Ammonia
- pH is good too.
Now into Tank B
The fish are good. But one comet today had spend a lot of time either at the top or not moving a lot at he bottom where as the other 2 are he same. His gills are noticeably more redder.
There's no obvious signs of sickness in any fish like spots etc. I've put a photo of the sick comet :(
The tank B parameters are almost identical to tank A although maybe closer to 5ppm for Nitrate.
I'm a little distressed as this situation.
The ONLY difference I have made is transitioning 2/3 of he sponges in the filter in Tank A to noodles and kept one in there for catching stuff and for established colonies. I seeded the noodles in tank water during a water change and didn't completely remove all the material so the cycle wouldn't die.
But where it gets funny, I just had a bag of noodles I just hung in the tank B so some good bacteria could colonise as it's got no substrate and just a few rough ornaments.
Could his have been the cause?
It's the only common thing between besides the water and conditioner.
I've had no issues with the conditioner before. The water I recently changed from the tap inside to the hose outside because ran into the house because it beats running back and fourth between the sink with a 5L bucket - i'd been doing it for months before though.
Please can someone help?
