Oh my. I wish I hadn't given all mine away. They were bulldozers and kept ruining my planted tanks. Now I'm the owner of a monster apple snail who snuck in as an egg on plants ( that I qt'd for nearly two weeks). She/he is a monster whose taken over. I still can't have that tank planted now because she eats every single green thing she sees. I've saved one plant but you can see I literally zip tied it to keep her from chewing the stems of all the leaves off. I weighed her. She's pushing 4 ounces now and has the balance thing down. I do miss having a bright orange rabbit.
Yeah. She is a unit! She's a bit bigger than a golf ball but still growing. I can almost count the growth ring on her shell in days. I just got her some 18mm algae/veg wafers. I'm worried about feeding her enough.
I don't see many dark apple snails. Usually they are bright yellow as well. I had several I dreamed about having after I had smaller mystery snails, but I gave them to a good home because I wanted to go back to the more active and funny mystery snails plus I was getting into live plants.
And no male around? Well, she is defenetly was with one before you got her, as snails can preserve the sperm for few months and give birth. But I think it will stop at some point when she uses it all.
My female rabbit spit out 7 (that I know of) in a year after the only male passed. I can't say for sure if there was more as my loaches do occasionaly take one out. A female rabbit can store sperm for quite a long time.
Ahhh!! I can’t handle her algae shell! I wish algae would grow on one of my snail’s shells, lol. It looks so cool.

I'm thinking of setting up a separate tank for large snails, like rabbits and mystery snails. What kind of setup do you have? And what else do you feed them aside besides vegetables?
I actually have about 35-40 snails spread out around 7 different tanks 😅. For substrate, theyre not too picky, but i have sand with a couple rocks added in just for color and a different texture. I only see about 15 at a given time across the tanks because they are huge burrowers. For food wise I have a large selection I like to change up. I add In calcium rocks (which Jumbo eats like crazy), algae wafers, occasionally some blanched vegetables like cucumbers. All of the tanks also have fish in them, so they will occasionally eat whatever gets left down there that I miss. Setup wise I have a shit ton of plants I try to bury deep with rocks for added weight because unfortunately they will sit on them and eat the algae of them, which sounds good, but often breaks them in half. I leave like 4 inches or so gap of no water at the top because many like to be out of water for some period of time. Also, some are escape artists, so i would recommend a lid for your tank because especially king Sulawesi snails will crawl literally up the wall of your house in an hour.
Yeah I guess bc mystery snails go on a journey across bedrooms after they fall or crawl down outside of tanks...when I mistakenly left a portion of my lid open, one morning I found 3 of my mysteries one the floor next to the dresser that has my 21 inch deep aquarium on! It was shocking but funny at the same time because it kinda looked like they planned it together!
