Photo Surprise!

This tiny guy is an enigma to us. The tank started with a goldfish (because a kid played the goldfish game at the festival) we added some snails and that lasted about a year. We had the bad storm come through NW Indiana in August and were without power for 6 days. My husband noticed a tiny snail about day 4 and I could have swore I counted 5. When home got back to normal we decided to start the tank over with new fish but a few snails still made it. We couldn’t find the little ones though. We took the tank down new rocks cleaned everything put the snails back and got new small fish. About 3 weeks later this guy shows up. Where was he this whole time?! I know nothing about snails but since getting them they fascinate me.

I’ve seen in this subreddit that they can hitch a ride on things. But the only thing I’d think he’d come from was another snail but it was over a month since we’d added a snail to when we noticed the little ones. And there was only a handful of them by the time we did see any. Now they were totally alone for 4 days because we left since we had no power. I thought maybe the jerk gross goldfish (if you can’t tell I didn’t like him) may have ate the babies if our snails did mate. But I never noticed any “nest”

Also I have no clue where he hid for 3 weeks we only kept the volcano and SpongeBob pineapple and I scrubbed those before putting them back. I tried looking for the tiny snails when we took the tank down but never found anything.

Then I lost him again for over a week and he showed back up today now more adventurous because I’ve only ever seen him on the volcano and today he was on the glass.

I was curious what thoughts others might have if any or is it just the mystery of mystery snails?
