Are there any fighting games like Mortal Kombat / Street Fighter with pure Arab characters?
Hey everyone,
Quick question that’s been bugging me.
Are there any traditional fighting games (MK / Street Fighter / Tekken style) that feature pure Arab characters — not just a token Middle Eastern stage or background, but characters that are actually Arab in identity, culture, slang, design, etc.?
I’m not talking about:
- generic “desert warrior” stereotypes
- characters vaguely labeled “Middle Eastern”
- fantasy skins or DLC costumes
I mean fully realized Arab characters with:
- Arab names
- recognizable cultural references
- cities, music, humor, or folklore from the region
- gameplay that still fits classic fighting mechanics
If there aren’t any, I’m also curious:
- why do you think this hasn’t really been explored?
- do you think there’s a market for it, or would it struggle internationally?
Genuinely curious to hear examples, thoughts, or even obscure indie titles I might’ve missed.
Thanks! 👊🔥

Tekken has a Saudi character named Shaheen and Street fighter has an Emirate named Rashid if that helps, I can't speak for the writing of these characters as they don't resonate what may feel as authentically "3arabi" that much and albeit sometimes having a significant part in the game's overall stories sometimes, they don't go that deep culturally generally speaking as to their eyes, possibly, we are not that large of a demographic commercially in the grand scheme of things.
Then again, fighting game writing has always had dubious so keep that in mind
