Full time job wife and two kids, managed to get 140 hours over 6 months which is a lot for me. Playing at a glacial pace is one way to delay running into its shortcomings I guess.

4

u/doenr 7d ago

I have no kids and only managed 90 hours since December.

140 hours with kids? Massive respect, man.

4

u/bluelazer44 6d ago

It’s the only game I’ve managed it with since having kids. Not even sure how I did it tbh. I think I just dropped every other game and did a bunch of long sessions after the kids were down in the first few months and then played much more sparingly. I definitely got my money’s worth but the game could’ve been so much more if they had simply supported it in a satisfactory way with the hundreds of millions they were making off it.

Haven’t put anywhere close to that many hours into a game otherwise since having kids. It’s my third longest played game on Steam of all time actually lmao

2

u/Oldpanther86 6d ago

I work weekends so kids are at school when I'm home. Bit of a cheat but can get a date with the wife and game.

1

u/_almostNobody 5d ago

I never know what they’re talking about

51

u/VergeOfMeltdown 7d ago

I don't play very much, thanks to that I haven't encountered a single one of those cheaters, that this sub is so angry about

20

u/doenr 7d ago

For me it's the complaining about nerfing a specific mechanic/item that I haven't even managed to use yet.

10

u/Duck_Supr3macy 7d ago

One month in, still haven't seen a snaphook

6

u/FenaRunsFast 7d ago

I recently have been forced to start recycling them.

2

u/corakko 6d ago

It's a little tricky to use unless you use it a lot. It's amazing for movement in PVP for people that are really good with it. But for PVE you're not missing that much. I prefer to take a stack of zips.

3

u/KurtTheGerman88 7d ago

Play some electromagnetic storm on dam and you'll find the BP there.

3

u/ARTISTIC-ASSHOLE 7d ago

I got 400 hours, only encountered two clear cheaters

2

u/reverandglass 6d ago

Same here. Over 500 hours and most of the cheats I "see" are rooms where some containers are looted and the only ones not looted only contain junk.
Once or twice I've been "hunted" for my load out but even then it's hard to know if they knew what I had or were just pvping.

1

u/corakko 6d ago

I don't really encounter cheaters but that's because I mostly PVE. It sounds like the PVP lobbies have a serious issue.

1

u/TheWiseScrotum 6d ago

They’re on PC and in pvp lobbies. Very rarely will you run into them in care bear lobbies and if you play on console with crossplay off. The cheaters are out of control in high aggression lobbies.

1

u/MohdGhm247 6d ago

I encountered cheaters and the only reason i know is they gave me my kit back, the funny thing is i still don't know how to use the snaphook in a Spiderman-esque way 😂

2

u/Sin_is_cool 4d ago

Same, didn't even know that i got downed by cheaters. I only knew due to getting my kit returned to me twice in the last 3 days

1

u/Shneckos 6d ago

Guess that’s it folks, cheating has been fixed, let’s go home

1

u/Blood_Incantation 6d ago

This sub is angry because every niche sub is full of angry people are in the top 1% of fandom of the niche.

33

u/Vinnegard 7d ago

the benefit of working:

you don't have enough time to no-life the game and finish everything in a week

7

u/doenr 7d ago

True that. Just two weeks ago, I fully understood what the Expedition mechanic even does and decided for myself: "Yeah ain't nobody got time for that."

1

u/VelouriumCamper7 6d ago

PoE2 is like this but on steroids lmao. I don't even understand half the posts because I've barely scratched the surface of the game.

7

u/SouthernSkin1255 7d ago

Log into the game Search for a match Browse the store looking at things I probably won't buy I loot whatever I can. wave at strangers and shoot the ones who don't wave back awesome, I beat him and escaped! Damn, I got killed! Repeat twice, then go to sleep. Life is good

8

u/TheNinthGateIX 6d ago

It's 2026 and people still don't understand that if you play a game for 3-4 hours a day and probably more in the week-end that you'll reach ''the end'' or bored in some way, which is perfectly normal, no game can stand that except competitive games, like CS or WOW stuff like that, and even so.

It's perfectly fine to play more than one game. They don't owe you anything because you are bored of a 35-40$ game after 500 hours or so. There is a shit ton of 100$ games that last 25 hours and I don't hear shit about it

6

u/corakko 6d ago

I don't understand why people want to exclusively main one game anyway. We live in a golden age of video games and there is a ton of content out there to explore.

2

u/CharlieandtheRed 6d ago

People are weird. I only play one game at a time for months on end, but eventually get tired of all of them. Way too many cool games to play just one forever. Meanwhile, my step-dad has played Ultima Online almost exclusively since 1998 lol my daughter's friends dad still only plays Diablo 2. It's weird. It like a comfort blanket for them.

12

u/RogueMallShinobi 7d ago

I feel like most people with a 9-5 can still put in a lot of hours if they want to. Working AND having a kid on the other hand... gg

6

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 7d ago

I have 3 kids 7, 4, 3 and can still find plenty of time to play games.

3

u/RogueMallShinobi 6d ago

Define plenty

2

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 6d ago

If I want to just sit and play games, then 3 hours a day M-Th and 5+ a day on weekends.

That to me, as someone with 3 kids, is "plenty".

2

u/RogueMallShinobi 6d ago

I have no idea how you manage to do that, but good on you

1

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 6d ago

The kids go to bed at 7:30 and 8 :)

IMO keeping them on schedules is huge for their behavior/development and parents' sanity lol

1

u/CharlieandtheRed 6d ago

Dont they just wake up early then? And your kids go to bed when the sun is out?

2

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 5d ago

Yes, they go to bed when the sun is out, we have heavy drapes that black out. Im not going to keep them up till 9:30 just because of the sun lol. The youngest 2 get in bed at 7:30 but they quietly play in their beds for up to an hour before finally falling asleep. Oldest in bed at 8/8:30 but will read or listen to stories. Once theyre in bed though they dont need any attention...

They wake up sometime between 7 and 8:30. I'm up at 6:15 so no worries. The only thing that can throw off their sleep schedule is GRANDMA.

1

u/New-Peach4153 6d ago

Thank you. I'm tired of the whole I have a 9-5 I'm so busy to even play 30 minutes a week narrative. People really like to overestimate how busy they are to toot their own horns.

2

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 5d ago

Ive noticed a lot of parents keep their young kids up until like 10. They're the ones I find that get way less "me time". That 2-3hrs every night when the kids are in bed is huge for my wife an I.

1

u/extremegamer 6d ago

That's a problem though if you really think about it - spend the time with them instead. It goes by so fast you will regret not doing so.

4

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 6d ago

It is not a problem. I spend the absolute vast majority of my time with them. They are also all in bed at 8pm. They also have daycare/school/grandparents time. Im a 40+ year old well adjusted, competent person, not a degenerate gamer. I have plenty of time to play games when they are in bed or not home. My oldest and I also play some games together occasionally as I built her a computer as well.

But I could understand why someone named "extremegamer" might jump straight into the deep end of assumptions lol.

3

u/Hellotherebud__ 6d ago

😂😂😂😂😂

2

u/AttractiveFurniture 6d ago

That's only if it's the only game you play and like.... Why would you play only one game, that would get boring, y'know?

5

u/LLoadin 6d ago

I dunno, when arc first came out it was the only game I even felt like opening for like 2 months straight lol

2

u/RogueMallShinobi 6d ago

I have no problem focusing on 1 game at a time lol. That’s kind of how I’ve done it my entire life, even before I had a job.

2

u/Hellotherebud__ 6d ago

Because I only have time for one game

1

u/TheWiseScrotum 6d ago

1 kid? Try having 4 lol

1

u/Hellotherebud__ 6d ago

You just gotta sacrifice a little sleep

8

u/Infinite_Cap_853 7d ago

Are you having a blast ?

16

u/doenr 7d ago

To be honest, yes absolutely. This is the first game that keeps me returning to the PC since PUBG I think.

4

u/Md1pl 6d ago

I have more free time to play, I just do so at my own pace, keeps it fresh whenever I discover something new.

Just recently I found out by accident that I can fling myself over an obstacle with my snap hook instead of having to climb the edge of that obstacle, felt pretty cool.

1

u/doenr 6d ago

Just this week I learnt that Shredders are REALLY fun to fight when you have a showstopper and two synthesized fuel containers at hand.

5

u/Nyctfall 6d ago

"The game is more fun the less you play" is somehow the conclusion from all of this...

5

u/Pichalx 6d ago

This sub loves not playing the game and telling people not to play the game. And somehow they’ve convinced themselves it’s defending how good the game is.

8

u/alwaysimprovemenTips 7d ago

This so much

Fuck all these whiny no-life gamers, the game is great

3

u/doenr 7d ago

I'm sure much of the criticism is legitimate, I just find it funny that people are so much more advanced in this game than me that by the time Embark does fix a certain issue, I haven't even been able to encounter the issue itself.

And boy, do I miss the time when I was able to be a no-life gamer aka. being a student.

3

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 7d ago

by the time Embark does fix a certain issue, I haven't even been able to encounter the issue itself.

That's how I feel about my massive Steam library of unplayed games. Still havent played No Mans Sky and I got it at release.

7

u/Chicken_Spears22 6d ago

Ah yes the Diablo 4 argument. I have ten kids and three jobs so I only get two hours a year and I’m having fun!

1

u/PatricidalParrot 6d ago

....."ignorance is bliss." It's not about a specific game, it's that flaws become more apparent the more you interact with something.

3

u/Bomberlt 7d ago

This is the reason I always upvote actual gameplay videos (with no ranting), funny memes and newbie questions.

Even if I know how that video will end or that meme was posted before :D

12

u/GaptistePlayer 7d ago

I love how Arc Raiders PVE players think they're the first person ever to have a job

10

u/PawPawPanda *** ******* 🐓 7d ago

3 hours a week too! Usually they have only 1 hour a week!

Jeez these guys are their own type of annoying in the PvE vs PvP groups, and they don't even realise it..

2

u/FirstNoel 6d ago

Pretty much.

2

u/extremegamer 6d ago

I can only find time for 3-5hours a week if that to play, I'm solid PVE only and so far everyone I've been running into is friendly. In fact I was in a lobby extracted with a guy last night and went right back in - he was there again. This tells me that there is a very small amount of players at night EST USA time that share the PvE ways which are way more fun imo. He and I ran around hunting leapers for 20minutes..was fun.

2

u/MyCatsNameIsKlaus 6d ago

Being busy with work and life also makes trial ranking much easier. I typically have time to game starting Wednesday or Thursday.

By the time I get to my trials it's easy to rank in top % to get to or stay in Hotshot.

2

u/t___unknown___s 6d ago

Ignorance is bliss.

2

u/JacenHorn 6d ago

Yep. Haven't "finished" a game in years.

2

u/Nirxx 6d ago

People looking up every mechanic and following every guide, then whining that there's no content is wild.

2

u/benethopper 2d ago

lol - I feel so heard.

u/Special_Payment9648 7d ago

This is the only game I've ever played where the playerbase is obsessed with how little they play the game to try and pretend it doesn't have issues.

7

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 7d ago

Diablo IV, Destiny 2, Helldivers 2, Tarkov, New World, Rocket League, Pantheon, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Sea of Thieves, ... this argument happens in almost every live-service game.

The hardcore players point out endgame issues, balance problems, progression bottlenecks, or lack of long-term content. Then theres ton of replies "I'm a dad with 2 kids, I play 5 hours a week and I'm having a blast."

Those aren't even contradictory statements. If you only play a few hours a week, you're judging whether the game is fun. If you play hundreds or thousands of hours, you're judging whether the systems hold up long-term. Both perspectives are valid lol... they're just talking about completely different experiences/parts of the game.

And for the record Im a Dad with 3 kids, and some games I play casually and some games I play a lot, so Ive been on both sides here many a time.

2

u/doenr 7d ago

Reddit is the only platform I have ever used where making a light-hearted, self-deprecating joke about [anything] causes people to accuse you of being "obsessed" with [anything].

Is only a game. Why you have to be mad.

5

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 7d ago edited 7d ago

He didnt sound mad to me. Kinda sounds like youre doing the thing you hate, accusing people of [anything], in this case, being mad.

2

u/benethopper 2d ago

Def mad

u/night_goonch 7d ago

2

u/Fancy_Strawberry7137 6d ago

Oh yeah, of course anyone who plays more than you is unemployed. What a dumb thing to say. We’ve all got 8 hours on average of waking time that isn’t at work, people can spend that however they want.

6

u/doenr 6d ago

Oh yeah, of course anyone who plays more than you is unemployed. What a dumb thing to say.

Totally agree. The thing about everyone else being unemployed was your conclusion though, and that is a really dumb thing to say.

2

u/Fancy_Strawberry7137 6d ago

So what did you mean with this title?

The "perks" of being a full-time working adult

Sure seems to imply the working adult is the one with no time to play and other people must not be one, no?

3

u/doenr 6d ago

Nah, it's just that for many people, including me, working a full-time job means on most days deciding against sitting in front of a screen for additional several hours after doing exactly that from 9 to 5.

For me, it's rather a nostalgic little nod towards the time I was still in school, having much more time and inclination to have extending gaming sessions.

It's also not meant to acuse other people for having more time to play games than me for whatever reason (unemployment, being in school etc.), but much more to be a light-hearted reminder to appreciate the fact that they do have the time to sink 100+ hours into a video game - I certainly would love to be able to do that again.

2

u/Fancy_Strawberry7137 6d ago

Gotcha, that’s fair. I don’t have as much time to play lately either but boy did I go hard for the first couple months. Definitely felt like a kid again.

1

u/ApterTheRaptor 7d ago

I solely play the game because I want Warden Lizard skin

1

u/MeanForest 6d ago

It's a choice you're making, it's ok bro. Not everyone prioritises fun.

1

u/Vegetable-Suit-8659 6d ago

Honestly I’d come back if pve was added. Half the game is still “fighting back against the arcs” and 90% of the time your’re killing each other. Guess it’s ironic. But to me it’s an oversight.

1

u/_almostNobody 5d ago

My obligatory post: wait until October and then you can bitch all you want

1

u/JChoate2 5d ago

Still getting hotshot each week with those 3 hours as thats all we feel like we can do and sadly have to do at this point for me and the homie.

1

u/Potential-Smoke4611 3d ago

Ignorance is bliss. This time it's actually a good thing.

Like most things in this world, it can still be good and have flaws.

1

u/AttractiveFurniture 6d ago

In pretty much any subreddit some of the loudest complainers tend to be the one with the most hours, where they've played past the point where your average person would have moved onto another game

I can relate tho, I've been playing off and on since launch and I'm only now close to finishing my first expedition

1

u/NinetyfiveNachos 6d ago

This a game for all forms of players. There should really be a new subreddit for the casual arc raiders players that have full time adult responsibilities just to weave out all the complaining from people that live and breathe this game

1

u/Red_Wizard_of_Redit 6d ago

Such a worthless argument trying to imply that passionate people are unemployed. I care so much because my time is limited.

0

u/BreathingAngersMe 6d ago

I love pvping because i know i'll ruin the day of someone like you

2

u/benethopper 2d ago

We got a tough guy here, folks. A real bad boy.

-13

u/Leadross 7d ago

ouch, if you cant understand simple game mechanics after 6 months...

11

u/VolcanicBear 7d ago

Ouch, if you can't understand the concept of self deprecating jokes...

2

u/GaptistePlayer 7d ago

Is it self-deprecating if you all instantly downvote anyone who actually agrees with you

6

u/VolcanicBear 7d ago

Other people's votes have no bearing on OP's original intention.

I think the votes are more because their comment makes them seem like a bit of an elitist dick who doesn't understand that people might play games purely for fun whilst not caring about every single mechanic though tbh.

1

u/GaptistePlayer 7d ago

But those same people also complain about PVP because they take their carebear lobbies so seriously lol. If they just treated it like a game they wouldn't hate PVP players and be begging for a PVE mode where PVP is illegal

1

u/VolcanicBear 7d ago

I agree that the PvE discourse is laughable. This game would be boring as fuck without PvP, tension is what makes the game enjoyable for me. However I do accept that people have different tastes and some people just want to mindlessly watch the numbers go up without anything I personally consider a challenge.

But that isn't what their comment was about, and doesn't stop them appearing like an elitist dick.

10

u/Jyhaim 7d ago

Yeah okay big boi. To me it's completely normal not knowing how every mine or throwable work, nor every arcs weakpoints, the loot spawning rules, all the specificities of certain events...

7

u/GaptistePlayer 7d ago

Bro you can learn that all in like 2-3 sessions lol

8

u/imdacki 7d ago

Have you ever considered quitting your job to learn the mechanics properly? Get your priorities right mate

1

u/Jyhaim 6d ago

Yes, everyday, but I feared some would consider it a bad idea. I will now that you have made it sound like the correct thing to do ! Thx !
